Hi there,

I recently got a new Samsung 4K tv that has Airplay 2 capability and I also bought a Homepod but there doesn't seem to be a way to connect the two. This is really irritating! I wanted to use it as a 'soundbar' and specifically got a television with Airplay!

When is Apple going to fix this issue with Samsung about not using Homekit? If the Homepod has Bluetooth, why can't it just be switched on?

Would like an idea otherwise I'll probably just sell the Homepod!

I can send things from my iphone to the the television (Like a chromecast) but from my understanding it seems you can not use homepod with a samsung tv because samsung don't use homekit, even though it has airplay. Just seems odd that the two companies have made it so you are locked out of using the homepod with a samsung (or as a bluetooth speaker) and Samsung have locked out homekit.

I posted it because I think the appletv is the only device I know of which can be both

without third party software macs can only airplay to other devices

same with iPod touch, iPhones and ipads

and things like airport express can only be airplayed to

I believe the Airplay 2 being added to the new smart TV’s was to airplay to them (using your iTunes movies etc) and not from them. Although it’s not entirely clear. I don’t think Homekit plays a role in this either.

have you verified that the samsung tv support using other airplay 2 devices or that it just not act as a airplay 2 recipient ?

Your TV is enabled to receive AirPlay but not as a source. You can connect your HomePods and Samsung TV using AppleTV. There are many threads dealing with this.
