Bugs with MacOS Catalina

The first bug that I have noticed is when you go to the App Store using the icon on the bottom menu the App Store program launches just fine but to the right of the window for the App Store there is a white square that flickers probably 3 inches square. I would think something is wrong with the video drive or the the App Store app itself.

Second when I shut down my iMac Pro I make sure that no apps are running. Sometime when I start the iMac Pro back up it opens to Safari even when I know nothing was running a shut down.

My system is an iMac Pro 2017 model. Also I have installed the latest update for Catalina and I still have these issues. Anyone else having these issues?

Thanks in advance

Hi rwb53,

Thanks for posting about the issues you're seeing in macOS Catalina!

To start, try clicking Apple menu () > System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items; is Safari listed here? Open items automatically when you log in on Mac. Also, you mentioned this might happen intermittently; how often does it happen when you start up from a full shutdown?

Regarding the App Store, there are two tests you can try that will help to narrow things down, determining if the issue is system-wide or user-specific, and ruling out certain software causes. These links have the details:

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

Once you test, reply back here with how it went. The community may be able to offer specific steps with the results of each test.

Take care.

Hello Sarah_s1. Safari is not listed in the Login items. It happens maybe once every 6th start up. As far as the App Store problem with the flashing white square. I'm waiting for apple care to get back with me they took a screen capture video and a log of my iMac Pro and sent it to engineering . I'm waiting to hear back from them. The support advisor told me that there were others having the same problem. I think it's probably a software issue. I will know for sure when I hear back from Apple support. Thanks for your input I have tried each of your suggestions to no avail. I'm sure they will get it sorted out soon. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks again.

I just updated Catalina to the latest version 10.15.1 that was released today the 29 Oct. Did not fix my issues at all. So I just down graded to MacOS Mojave version 10.14.6. Now everything is working fine. Kinda disappointed with Apple support, also have not heard back from Apple Care yet.

I updated to Catalina 10.15.2 yesterday. Both of my problems sadly still exist. The update did not solve them. I called apple care to check on my case and they said that engineering was looking at it and that other people were having the same problem.

Safari still is running sometimes when I start up, and the App Store app still has a square of white pixels that shows up just to the right of the app window. I guess that I'll have to wait for the next update to see if they will fix the problems that I'm having. I just wanted to update my post.
