Handsfree messaging using Siri on iPhone

Even after the latest update, I could ask Siri to message one of my contacts. Suddenly, today, Siri tells me it's unable to do so or simply opens Messages for that contact and doesn't ask me what I want to say. I don't have bluetooth in my car so nothing on my steering wheel to activate. What happened to my Siri?

If I say "Hey Siri, new message to [contact]" (which I used to do all the time), she now says "I'm sorry, I can't do that." Siri saying no new messages I just bought an IPhone 14 Pro Max. Siri keeps saying I have no new messages when I ask her to read them. I still have the notification numbers of new messages to read. I have even set siri to be used when phone is locked and even set messages to preview. Not sure what is going on. Need help resolving this issue.
