Why is Apple Mail rearranging my mailboxes after I manually move them.

I believe some people do think Apple will jump into the conversation here - I've NEVER seen that occur.

Does this only affect Gmail/Gsuite accounts?

If yes, does it affect accounts using an "App Specific Password"?

For me, it's re-arrranging all my gsuite accounts (5 of them), none of which have App Specific Passwords. I'm wondering adding App Specific Password might solve it?

It does not work if you have 2FA and synced contacts and calendar. I set up my accounts with 2FA when it was introduced. So, I have always had this setup of Apple Mail - Google - 2FA - Mail, Contacts, and Calendar, even before Catalina. Since Catalina, my Inboxes move about 3 to 5 times everyday. There most probably is a bug in the Apple Mail program.

Actually, as I reported previously, it is a known issue. I reported awhile ago and still have an open ticket so Apple can update me when they have a fix.

Note, doubtful those setting suggestions will help. I’ve done everything- still rearranging itself constantly.

I have this same issue. Catalina 10.15.5 on a Macbook Air 2018.

I am fairly certain (not 100%) that it started happening after I went to each of my Gmail accounts in a browser, removed the auth for Mac OS X, and then went through the "authorize in Safari" step again for each. I did this to solve the issue where I was getting constant pop-ups about my accounts going "offline" (https://support.google.com/mail/thread/4108661). I don't recall having the re-ordering issue prior to that.

Figures that solving one problem would cause another....

Since someone here suggested Spark a while back, I installed it and have been using it carefree ever since. Integrates with Calendar (although that's not how I use Calendar), and seems to work really well overall.

Has anyone tried to contact Apple support by phone? Maybe if they get an engineer to look in to it they will be able to solve it. Maybe we just need to flush some preferences file or something.

Has anyone tried setting 2FA and "App Specific Passwords" on all their various Google Accounts? I think that might work. Will try on the weekend and report back.

For the record, I submitted this as a bug report during the Catalina beta test. Now, I'm giving serious thought to scrapping the mail app and using a 3rd party program for managing email.

I've moved most of my addresses to ProtonMail. Now I've only 4 to worry about in AppleMail.

I just migrated to Spark mail (on the App Store) and so far I'm very impressed. Might we worth a try y'all!!

Are you on Catalina and did you ever get a resolution for this? Just wanted to let you know I'm having the same problem. Have been able to custom order my inboxes with every OS release, and they are remembered after software updates, restarts, etc. Now every time I login, it's a random order. I just tried pressing "option" when I rearranged them, like you do to remember finder window size. Not sure it will work, but maybe it's something similar that was not communicated to users during the Catalina upgrade.

It didn’t long-term, unfortunately. Still puzzled on why this is an issue after years of OS changes with no problems. Probably low on Apple’s priority list. I’ll have to get around to submitting official feedback sometime soon.

Same problem here, and it seems the frequency is increasing. For a while on Catalina it would be a single change in order every day or two, now it seems like they're mixing the list order every time I look back at Mail.
