Why is Apple Mail rearranging my mailboxes after I manually move them.

I use apple mail to access about 7 email addresses. I have always manually moved them in my Inbox to the order in which makes sense for my workflow and that has always worked.

Now, every time I log-into mail on my MacBook, the inboxes are arranged in a very random order. HELP! the OCD in me is going crazy!

MacBook Pro 15", macOS 10.14

I just got off the phone w/ Apple support on this. While this did not appear to be a known issue for them, here is what they had me do:

Go to System Prefs>Internet Accounts

Uncheck "Mail" for each of the accounts I use in Mail

Recheck "Mail" for each, but in the order in which I want to see them in my master inbox

Close and reopen Mail

So far, this is working but I need to monitor this throughout the day to see if it holds up. Fingers crossed.

Relieved to find out I am not going crazy and there are others experiencing this issue after upgrading to Catalina. Would love to hear the solution to this when and if they ever fix it. My workmates thought I was crazy when I was complaining about this but it has a surprisingly big impact on my workflow and if it is not fixed soon I will be forced to find a new mail program.

EXACT SAME issue... this happened a while back (maybe like 2 years ago) and it seemed to have been rectified..but its happening again!! Wish they (APPLE!!) would fix this ASAP. This is very frustrating ...and the reason so many decide to use a 3rd party email app... when you are trying to manage more than just a few mailboxes.. ... having the order switch up and in different locations after numerous attempts to put them in the right order the folder/email account NEVER stays put. VERY VERY FRUSTRATING.

Add me to the list of people having this issue. I think people blow it off because it's just us being OCD about things, but it truly does affect workflow, not to mention giving me the heebie-jeebies feeling that some gremlins have been running around in my mail app rearranging things, like it's not wholly mine or something, which is not a great feeling when sitting down to work.

Did anyone get resolution on this item?

It's been happening to me ever since I upgraded to MacOS Catalina. I tried adding a 2-digit number to the name of each account in System Preferences / Internet Accounts, but that didn't work either. And yes, I have tried speaking with AppleCare, although they weren't able to help (and weren't able to find any documentation about it).

Me too with the following behavior:

Mail app keeps moving my mail boxes around. I have 6 gmail accounts installed and they keep changing order in witch they are displayed.

Mail box 1

Mail box 2

Mail box 3

Mail box 4

Mail box 5

Mail box 6

I got to get lunch and when I return the list of mail boxes have now changed to:

Mail box 2

Mail box 3

Mail box 1

Mail box 5

Mail box 6

Mail box 4

It is really unpleasant. Can you please consider fixing it?

Best,

Mads

I've noticed this same problem for some time now. I believe it is a MacMail App issue and not necessarily related to the OS. I was running 10.12 and started to notice the issue. I upgraded to 10.14.6 and the issue is still there. I've been an Apple user since the 1980's and always enjoyed their products and most importantly customer support. Sadly over the past several years they seem to not really care about releasing shoddy products riddled with bugs and are very slow to respond to customer concerns to fix them. Have many prior Mac fan friends that have been switching to MS Surface and other non-Apple products and are happier. Never thought I'd do the same but tired of Apple bugs being totally ignored for months and sometimes years. So once this MacBook Pro gets old it may be time to say goodbye to Apple :(

Quick follow-up inquiry for those struggling w/ this issue: Are the mailboxes you're each having this concern w/ all Gmail accounts set-up in Apple Mail, or are they not exclusively Gmail accounts? I spoke w/ Apple support today and they confirmed that they have internal documentation of one user having the same issue and this user was/is running Catalina, both a beta and an official release, and the individual had the same concern as mine, that is, specifically w/ the reordering of Gmail mailboxes in Apple Mail. Looking forward to any feedback and thanks in advance!
