iPhone 11 Pro does not ring for WhatsApp calls or video calls

I have an iPhone 11 pro running iOS 13.1.3. For months, my phone does not ring or vibrate when someone calls or video calls me from WhatsApp. I went into my settings, and everything is ON! This is extremely annoying to keep missing people’s calls. I do tend to keep my ringer off, and I do not use DND.

Hi SBRapaport,

I have a similar problem running 12.4.1on an iPhone 7. But in my case, WhatsApp voice calls will ring as expected (including when the phone is locked/screen off). Video calls simply will not ring unless I have WhatsApp open and active.

I am sure that this DID work not too long ago, as I use video calls regularly, so I wonder if it's a bug in a recent WhatsApp update?

Greetings SBRapaport,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities! I understand you're not receiving notifications on your iPhone for WhatsApp as expected.

I suggest ensuring you've managed the notifications for WhatsApp correctly, as outlined in the following document from WhatsApp: WhatsApp FAQ - Why don't I get notifications?

Let me know how it goes from here.

Kind regards.

I'm having the same issue with WhatsApp video calls.. Incoming WhatsApp audio calls always ring but nothing for video calls, the only indication I have for a missed video call is a a badge indicating a missed call.

I have also noticed if I'm on a WhatsApp audio call with someone and they switch to video, the phone vibrates for the incoming video call but I have no option to accept it, I have to end the audio call and video call them back.

I have every notification turned on and still the same. Hopefully this can be resolved soon as it's getting very annoying missing family calls that will only be more frequent over the Christmas period.

Same problem here: iPhone 5s, iPhone 7 running on latest iOS, with all notifications on, but my WhatsApp does not give me a notification when I get a videocall, especially when my phone is locked. I hope it is not a deliberate action of Apple since it seems that the ring option (only for messages is available now) had been taken out in the past few updates.

My wife and I experienced the same issue: When receiving calls from WhatsApp, our iPhone 6 and 8 failed to ring. We went to Settings>Notifications>WhatsApp and found checkmarks for both Lock Screen and Notification Center were checked, but Banners was not. After checking Banners, both our iPhones now ring when receiving calls from WhatsApp.

Thank you, Drbk35 for your help!

Hello,

I m not sure if you still have this problem. I had a similar problem which i was able to solve today.

Yes it has to do with notifications. For me the "WhatsApp video call not ringing" is resolved by enabling Notifications-> WhatsApp->Alerts ->Banner(temporary or persistent) doesn't matter.

I have also left Sounds and Badges on under Alerts in Notifications.

I have tested with Alerts unselected and WhatsApp Audio call comes thru fine but video call does not ring at all.

thanks!

Delete the app after taking the backup and re installed. It solved the issue on my XS Max.

Back up with too much of data is difficult and takes a longer time along with iCloud storage problem so installed the WhatsApp business app and shifted my data to it. Later deleted the WhatsApp and re installed it. Did the reverse thing again from business to ordinary app and my problem got solved.

Exact same issue (frustrating as ****). Tried all of their solutions before with no avail. Reinstalling the app doesn’t change a thing. The problem with turning on all of notifications it will show all messages on main screen, when all we want is for video to ring. I believe it’s the apple thing. The are most likely blocking it. My android friends have been calling on WhatsApp voice call and once I answer switching to video. Works like a charm :)
