Sending Message to different people in same Contacts entry

Like most of us, I have several contacts with more than one person in an entry, for instance, my son and his wife. Prior to iOS 13, I could have a message thread going with my son, and if I wanted to send one to his wife, I would create a new message with her phone number which resulted in two separate message threads. When I tried to do this yesterday the message to his wife ended up in the same message thread I had going with my son.

I haven’t found any information about this change in iOS 13, so I don’t know if it’s a bug or if it’s an undocumented change, or what. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hey there dlt4,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand your messages to contacts using the same contact card are getting combined. I’ll be happy to help with this.

In iOS 13, you’ll need to create a separate contact card if you want to send a message to a specific individual in a group contact card. You can read more about sending and receiving messages in iOS 13 here:

Cheers.
