Mail - Classic view in Catalina

Am i dreaming, or have they fully removed Classic view? It's no longer in preferences. You can now select "Use column layout" and "Show date and time" in the View dropdown, but the "sort by" remains a drop in the top right, rather than the columns becoming clickable in the active view. So to actually sort by something is now at least 3 clicks rather than one. Has anyone figured out how to undo another incomprehensible design-dumbing-down decision? Or is that it: we pretend our insanely expensive laptops are ipads now? Every single update provides a depressing development for anyone who has owned a mac since they were actually macs......... our baby just woke up from the machine gun fire coming from this ridiculous "pro" keyboard.....

I agree. I don't do iPads (the rest of the family does), I do big spanking desktops, but for years now the software that drew to me the Mac ecosystem is getting dumber and dumber.

The changes to how we sort and view our mail make no sense to me. It's a deliberate dumbing down on the options we have.

Classic view is the only way I use mail, never ever liked the replacement viewing mode.

I use Apple Mail all the time. The Catalina version of mail is just impossible. Poor functionality, little flexibility. Why???

I actually switched back to Mojave, which wasn't easy, but it was the only way I could do my work. This means that until Apple actually puts Mail back the way it was, I'm stuck with this computer and this OS until the end of time. How is that in Apple's interest?

I called Apple and wrote and registered my thoughts about this big step backwards. But I don't think anything has changed.

Please do write to them with feedback and maybe, just maybe, they'll give us back the full functionality of Mail in Classic view.

As I’ve said before, removing the ability to both choose and ordinate the columns you want to use in Mail is incredibly frustrating and a huge step back in productivity for me.

I am not getting used it: I have to actively work to ignore it so as not to expend an iota more emotional energy than I am already doing for my day to day existence.

Put it back, now, please!

They seem to have changed how the "dot" at the bottom of the Mail window works. I first dragged the dot down to the bottom of the window and saw only the list of messages. I then tried clicking and holding it for several seconds (which did nothing) for several attempts, holding it for longer and longer times before dragging upwards.

Then I tried holding the "command" key while clicking and dragging the dot up, and the first couple of times it did nothing, but on the third time it reopened a window area in which the selected message is displayed.

Hard to believe this is how it's _supposed_ to work - maybe it's a bug! I'll call AppleCare to pursue further and post what I learn in this Discussion.

You guys are providing info that is in no way, shape or form related to Version 13.4 (3608.80.23.2.2) in which you can't get mail preview or classic look even if you take a big hammer and hammer the app down ...I regret in so many ways ever switching on my hosts to the Catalina OS. So far THE biggest OS X junk in Apple's history!!!

HOW CAN I VIEW TO WHOM I SENT A EMAIL in the VIEWER WINDOW

With Catalina, MAIL has never been the same. In the viewer window, I need to see to whom I sent an email .

The TO/CC label does not reveal to whom the email was sent. I must click on the "TO" which then

Opens up the email in order to view the recipient of the email. This did not happen with the Classic

View of Mail on Mojave. RESTORE MAIL CLASSIC VIEW TO CATALINA.
