Final Cut Pro x 10.4.7 Bug: Any effect brings a blinking rectangle on the top left quarter of the image.

Contact the developers. Those are all plugs that install in system locations, which are new in Catalina. Both CoreMelt and mVX are usually quick responders.

I had the same issue, drove me crazy but now I have a workaround. If I use any third party LUT component like motionvfx mLut or CinemaGrade, I get the problem.

But if I use the built-in "custom lut" effect of final cut pro x, the problem does NOT appear. So for the moment, I work with this.

It appears that the problem is connected with the Metal Renderer that is used in the latest version of FCPX.

Additionally, this problem doesn't exist on my MBA with Intel HD 6000 but is replicable on Mac Mini 2018 with Intel Iris Graphics.

Back in time there was a very annoying bug in macOS Mojave 10.14.2 related to Intel Iris Graphics driver shipped with that build (which caused machines to spindump forever when you've tried to use anything that uses OpenGL in FxPlug content, which means that all available plugins for FCPX were affected).

Probably we'll need to wait for Apple to release a new version of FCPX that will fix this.

Contact the developers. The problem appears on mLUTs s well, and there are probably others.

I'm having the same problem using film convert. After updating to fcpx 10.4.7 and Mac OS to Catalina 10.15.1, everything I export that was color graded with film convert has an occasional frame of the upper left quadrant of the image be ungraded. I also experience an issue when the shots of the video change, the upper left corner will be of the previous shot for 1 frame. It is ruining my work as well.

Yes, I bought an egpu and render/export works. It wont boot with egpu only, I have to connect a second monitor to intel 630, another bug with mac mini 2018.

I had the blinking rectangle on the top left quarter of the image with two third party plugins: Film convert 2.5 and "Cosmo" from Red giant.

That could be, but I’ve heard of the problem on mLUTs with users who have dedicated GPUs. Regardless the problem has to be fixed by the developers. It can’t be replicated with the built in effects even on systems with integrated graphics.

I have Razer core x, with Asus 580x gpu. I have read the same thing, but I see a GPU usage of 8% in export. I have exported H.264 from both, rendered and unrendered timeline, no flickering rectangle appears. By the way, export times of a rendered timeline is match faster.

Please give exact information about the system and the effects you’re using.

Unless the problem can be reproduced with Apple’s software there isn’t much they can do. Clearly the API has to be have been rewritten for Catalina because of the way applications are stored.
