Getting iMovie error, "There is not enough disk space available at the selected destination, " although plenty of space.

I'm trying to edit a short (<2MB) video file that I took on my iPhone. But when I try to import it into iMovie, I get the error, "There is not enough disk space available at the selected destination. Please choose another one or clear some space.."

But I have over 300 GB of free space on my MacBook Air, so I don't understand what this error message means.

Can someone tell me how to fix this?

There have been other reports of that error since the Catalina upgrade. IF you are using iMovie 10.1.13 try redownloading it. Also, try importing using a USB wire connection to your cell phone.
