Whatsapp delay

I have a 5 minute delay on incoming messages (on data as well as on wifi) most of the time i have to open whatsapp to receive messages otherwise it takes the full 5 mins I already did a reset on the setting of whatsapp and did a reset on my phones settings (iphone 11) also had this problem on my other iphones (6/6s). So i contacted whatsapp and they said the following:

When you receive a message or a call in WhatsApp, but aren't online, WhatsApp will automatically send a message to the Apple Push Notification Service (APNS). This allows an alert to be displayed, even when WhatsApp is closed or when your phone's display is off. The message WhatsApp sends to APNS typically takes only a few milliseconds. Once the message is sent to APNS, any delays or failure to deliver the message as a push notification to your device are usually caused by issues with your phone or with your network's connection. Currently, all of our systems are operating normally.

They also said something about doing a clean install but i already did that and the problem is still there...

anybody any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi Chris,

I am having this same problem as Jordy and have done the same troubleshooting.

At the moment it is only Whatsapp that is having this delayed notification, every other app is fine with notifications including email clients.

What is the cause of this delay, that I have to open Whatsapp to see my sent messages as the notifications doesn’t show on app icon.

* Am using iPhone 7

* Software- 13.2.3

Hi there, jordy229.

I see that you're having a problem with the WhatsApp application on your iPhone. You're not receiving notifications when a message arrives. Good job on the troubleshooting you’ve used, and I'm glad to help.

Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch -- Make sure that Notifications is turned on for WhatsApp under Settings > Notifications.

If this doesn't correct the problem, please answer the following questions:

  1. Are you receiving notifications from other applications?
  2. Is WhatsApp the only application you're not receiving notifications from?
  3. When you restored your iPhone to factory settings, did you set it up as a new iPhone to test, or did you restore a backup?

Let me know how that goes, and take care!
