When using bluetooth on my 2012 Honda CR-V with an iphone8, I have very low volume either when listening to music or podcasts. Any suggestions. I have tried turning off the Sound EQ, made no difference.

While the iPhone is connected via Bluetooth and you are playing music, use the volume up button on the side of the iPhone to turn up the Bluetooth volume and that should increase your listening volume.
