Siri dictation throws in extra words that I am not saying

When I dictate a text or other things, catcher Siri randomly throws in some form of the word catch whenever she wants to. It just happened above after the words other things achieve. I never said the word catcher. Catch the same thing is true of the word achieve a Chuchu in a sentence before last catchy. Catching. There it goes again so I will type the rest of this. You have to ignore “a Chuchu” to make sense of what Siri is typing in place of what I am dictating. Ever see anything like this before?

Wow BadBernie! Thank you on behalf of everyone for doing all that!

I was having the catchy word problem every day with virtually every text on my iPhone 11 pro max until I updated to iOS 13.2.3 two days ago and so far (knock on wood) it has not happened once since then.

This is a follow-up on step 6 above. Call off the dogs!!!

We may have a kind of solution here!!! (but only for iPhone users so far.)

I performed all those steps that the engineers proposed. everything looked like the issue was resolved during the tests that I did. Soon the issue was back with the CATCH word inserted randomly. Eventually I went back through the steps again, and when I got to the "General > Keyboard" setting to disable 4 functions, they all showed up as ON again.

Hmmm. first they were OFF, problem went away. Then, Problem came back and they were found to be ON again. Hmmm.

Still don't know how that happened, but i turned them OFF again. Problem went away. They stayed OFF, of course. and the problem has stayed away.

I make sure they have stayed OFF, and never see the word CATCH or any other strange inserts anymore. I am still on my 5s hardware with iOS 12.4.3 and dictation works fine. Of course some functions are disabled, but I found them mostly useless or irritating rather than helpful anyway. I don't miss them, and dictation types what I actually say. The only exception is those cases where my pronunciation doesn't meet some standard that the program is written for. That was always a problem, but a minor one to me.

Part 5 -- Yesterday's (Tuesday) call back documentation

Hello Bernard,

The recommended steps are:

-Make sure iOS is up to date. If updating the device, test the issue after updating.

-Make sure the Settings > General > Language & Region selections are appropriate for the customer

-Make sure the appropriate Settings > General > Dictionary languages are selected Uninstall any third party keyboards

-in Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards and test.

-Check for Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement items related to the behavior the customer is experiencing Turn off each of the following one at a time

-in Settings > General > Keyboard and test after disabling each to see if the behavior is isolated to one of these features: Auto-Correction, Check Spelling, Shortcuts Predictive Make sure the customer has a current backup

-then use Settings > General > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary and test the issue

Hope these are beneficial to all! Again have a great rest of your day and Happy Thanksgiving!

Crystal

BadBernie inserting a comment here: (no, not the word CATCH) LOL

I just went through the steps on my iphone5s and ios12, and the issue went away.

I messed up where it says to turn items off under

Settings > General > Keyboard

When I got there they were all still ON !!!

Turned the correction one OFF , tested, and the issue was gone.

I used the case number Apple support recommends restoring the iPhone through iTunes by plugging into your computer, holding the home/power buttons or volume up, volume down, hold power until the message appears that the iphone needs to be restored and then iTunes will download the latest software and write a fresh image. I personally doubt this will do anything, they want me to call back when/if there is still an issue. Also need to make sure iCloud backup is current, and then it will make you download all apps, and sign into everything again. I feel like outsourced labor for an issue they should just deal with but "they haven't seen this issue before" . I said I think the cure is worse than the disease. If anyone has tried this already please post it and contact the iPhone support team using case number 100973766645. They will be confused because the name on the case is someone else's name! Just tell them the story.

I've had this problem on my desktop since 10-24. I can literally put the dictation on and just let it run until it shuts itself off, and it will create a string of these words. Words and phrases that I've gotten so far include:

“catch,” "catchup," "catchy," "catcher," "A Chachi," "Chatchai," “are chips,” “or Chata,” “or chat,” "achieve, Kate, " “are Chuchu,” "Katje," “are Chachi,” “are Chachi a Chachi,” “Are Chatchai,” “are Chachi catch,” “Catch up catch,” “Are catching,” “catch up,” “Catcher catch,” “Catching,” “capitol catch," “a Chuchu,” “a Chachi,” “are Chutcha,” “Achoo,” “catchup,” “Can,” “Catch that,” “a Chachi catch,” “A chachos,” “a Chachi, catch up,” “Catch up catcher catch up,” “Catchy catcher,” “are Chachu," "are cheap," "or check"... the stranger ones once or twice, the simpler ones multiple times, the simplest ones many times.

There's no confusion whatsoever about this being an Apple issue; there's nothing else it can be, with multiple people getting it repeatedly on different devices and operating systems. I get it with every browser, every application, EVERYWHERE. Even dictating a search term in the Finder! This could also be the result of a hacker, I guess, although you'd think that Apple would catch onto that pretty quickly... No pun intended!

I am having the same catchy catchy problem and it is infuriating as I practically never do anything but dictate on my phone. What happened to the Apple Support person who was going to look into this? I am dictating this, hoping to make it do it… Catch — There, it did it. It happens when the microphone times out and you get the little ping sound and then the catchword :-) or words appear. How are we supposed to figure this out on our own? This is so irritating. Someone posted above that they had a case number – could you please post the case number?

So anyway, I was having this problem a lot while I was in Italy using a SIM card that I had bought through one of the major phone providers there. (TIM) I had the problem very bad for over two months.

I have returned to the United States and reinserted my Verizon Sim card. It has been four days and I have not had a single instance of the weird words being inserted no matter how hard I have actually tried to trigger it. It may relate to the Internet provider that is being used.

This is just a theory but I can relate only what has happened for me.

Always write down the name of the Apple rep you talk to & give them a review. MY REP told me to use this case number for everyone to call in with!!! Keep calling until you get a supportive rep!

10 minutes on the phone is NOTHING compared to the hassles I've been through with rewriting texts & emails over the last few months.
