Siri dictation throws in extra words that I am not saying

When I dictate a text or other things, catcher Siri randomly throws in some form of the word catch whenever she wants to. It just happened above after the words other things achieve. I never said the word catcher. Catch the same thing is true of the word achieve a Chuchu in a sentence before last catchy. Catching. There it goes again so I will type the rest of this. You have to ignore “a Chuchu” to make sense of what Siri is typing in place of what I am dictating. Ever see anything like this before?

YES, it's happening to nearly EVERY voice dictation I do on text, email, imessage. If I don't proofread before sending, I can bet there will be a few "catch" phrases in the mix. I'm using the iPhone 11pro max with the latest iOS 13 updates if that makes a difference.

This has been happening to me since October 2019. Sometimes it will go weeks without an issue and then will happen constantly for days. Cellular or WiFi, doesn't matter. Usually either catch or catchy. If I remain silent while on dictation, after about 10 seconds it will insert the word. Sometimes it inserts is while I am dictating. Apple really need to figure this out.

This is not solved. I don’t know why it’s marked as “Solved.” I have been having this problem For a while - months - And I just tried breathing and it does not create these random words.

As with every issue I have with my Apple devices, when you search for the problem it shows you everything but what you’re looking for like there’s never a problem it’s only fan boy articles and rumors about what’s coming.

Another issue is how dictation will change what you said while you are talking and even after; sometimes just as you’re sending a text. And every so often it will erase every single thing you typed and retype it but if you lose connectivity you will lose everything you said. (Of course on this particular reply it’s been perfect.) There’s no reason why they can’t have local voice recognition you shouldn’t need the Internet.

That's something you'd need to ask the original poster as they are the only one who can mark a post "solved".

Actually, there is. The level of voice recognition on an iPhone requires more power than the phone itself has. So, it relies on a connection to Apple's servers and their vast databases.

I don't want to be that guy - but if you have nothing to say, maybe consider not saying it. I wasn't asking you, I was making a statement that it isn't resolved. Also, I had a *flip phone twenty years ago which could voice dial. It is uninformed to state that you need Apple's supposedly vast database on a 256 GB iPhone such that you can't even dial "Bob" without a good internet connection. Perhaps it wouldn't be perfect, but at least you wouldn't be so reliant on maintaining an excellent and persistent internet connection.

In November, I began experiencing the Catch, catching, cather message dictation problem. I've been working with one of the senior reps at Apple tech support for weeks. We've tried everything without success. Last week, he installed a program on my phone to gather keystrokes I think, and I've captured images of the problem texts with their time stamps. All were submitted to Apple engineers to determine and resolve the problem. He stated that they will get back to me, but that I should make sure to install all iOS updates because the fix may be in one of them. Let's see what happens.

What bothers me is that the tech support reps all claim to have no knowledge of the issue and do not seem to be interested in the fact that hundreds of us are having this problem.

Why is apple not addressing this problem? Catcher why are they just putting their head in the sand and pretending it’s not there and giving us fixes the do not fix the problem?

Notice “Catcher” appeared in this text.

This is crazy. Apple needs to take some accountability and offer viable remediation. It’s probably just not cost-effective for them. As if they couldn’t afford it

Yes, this is an Apple problem. Please call Apple Care and let them know. There is a case number back up in the thread a ways. Please give that number to the Apple rep with whom you speak. I've called them three times and frankly, if I and only a few others report the issue, the complaint keeps falling on deaf ears. Apple Care needs to hear FROM ALL OF US, otherwise, it is clear, they will just keep ignoring the problem. Please call Apple and please check in now and then to this thread to remind others to call Apple Care. Otherwise the problem just persists with no solution, since we are then just given quick fixes that don't last more than a day.

I used the case number Apple support recommends restoring the iPhone through iTunes by plugging into your computer, holding the home/power buttons or volume up, volume down, hold power until the message appears that the iphone needs to be restored and then iTunes will download the latest software and write a fresh image. I personally doubt this will do anything, they want me to call back when/if there is still an issue. Also need to make sure iCloud backup is current, and then it will make you download all apps, and sign into everything again. I feel like outsourced labor for an issue they should just deal with but "they haven't seen this issue before" . I said I think the cure is worse than the disease. If anyone has tried this already please post it and contact the iPhone support team using case number 100973766645. They will be confused because the name on the case is someone else's name! Just tell them the story.
