Siri dictation throws in extra words that I am not saying

When I dictate a text or other things, catcher Siri randomly throws in some form of the word catch whenever she wants to. It just happened above after the words other things achieve. I never said the word catcher. Catch the same thing is true of the word achieve a Chuchu in a sentence before last catchy. Catching. There it goes again so I will type the rest of this. You have to ignore “a Chuchu” to make sense of what Siri is typing in place of what I am dictating. Ever see anything like this before?

Wow BadBernie! Thank you on behalf of everyone for doing all that!

I was having the catchy word problem every day with virtually every text on my iPhone 11 pro max until I updated to iOS 13.2.3 two days ago and so far (knock on wood) it has not happened once since then.

I called Apple tech support , described the problem, and ask them to assign a case number. Apple tried to contact me when I was gone. I returned their call and found out they had assigned a number for our case. Our case file, I’m happy to report,, was accurate up to that point. I spoke with a senior advisor. She had handled other calls reporting this kind of problem, but her understanding was that it was basically a microphone error. I was able to explain and convince her that this problem was quite different. She was very patient over the whole 45 minute call. She read through our discussions on the forum. Then she took a few minutes to look things up. Now that she understood what we have been discussing here, she found that the problem had been reported several times since sometime around mid October. She agreed to take ownership of this case and follow up reporting back to me as appropriate. We now have a case number with a person assigned to it who is reporting back to me by phone. Wish me luck

Siri and dictation have always been bad for me. The only time siri can understand what I’m saying is when I insult it; therefore I only use siri when the kids want to insult siri. 😂

I’ve found that with voicemail transcription the same problem occurs. Unless it’s a robocall, I have to listen to the message in order to understand it because the transcription is gibberish.

I won’t be online much this week because of Thanksgiving. Catch hear something I’d like to get some feedback on from any of you. Catching it only works when it wants to, catchy but during a pause if I take a deep breath as if I’m frustrated or reluctant to say something and then start talking that seems to trigger some of these inserts. Catch up catcher catchy. Catching it seems to be working now but the words don’t get inserted until I start talking after the pause

Good luck! I stumbled across this forum and was so happy to see others were experiencing the same issue I had been dealing with for weeks. I thought I was losing my mind! I was beginning to think it was Apple's way of forcing me to do a software upgrade, but from the looks of other posts here, that did not seem to solve the problem either. I had a stroke, so the voice dictation option for texting is my only option as I lost use of one hand, so this "glitch" is a real pain and problem for my communications! Thank you for taking the time to deal with Apple support, I hope they get back to you!

I have been trying all day to post and update to everyone, but the POST button just puts me into a long wait with no response.

Maybe it is because it was such a long reply and it takes longer to get it all onto the forum.

I will keep trying and ask for help from apple. One way or the other, I will get a response posted along with a specific request for some help related to the response.

reporting back -- part 1

To all who have this dictation issue and follow this discussion. I have run into some "bumps in the road" that have made me very late reporting back. I thank you for your patience with this. In this post I will bring you up to date on progress so far. Then I will be posting follow-up action and details here ASAP.

Progress yesterday and today Wednesday):

The engineers responded to Crystal, our Apple Senior Advisor, with a list of steps each of us to take on our device. They propose this as a possible solution.

more parts to come

reporting back - part 3

Now I will ask anyone who is on iOS 13.2.3, or who can update to 13.2.3, please try go through the steps in the proposed solution and report your results back by replying to this post.

The fine print disclaimer at the bottom of this page says, "Apple can therefore provide no guarantee as to the efficacy of any proposed solutions on the community forums."  It is not about a guarantee, but simply about whether the proposed steps are really a solution after all. That's why we need to try it out and report the results back.

OOOPS! posting limits again. I'll keep trying. That worked for part 2.

final part 4 to come . . . . . .

Hooray, part 3 worked

I have already composed my message to Crystal requesting our case to be re-opened based on your test results and also on the basis that iOS12 users, after using dictation without this issue before mid-October, have suddenly become unable to dictate what they need to.  As soon as I get some responses back from you folks, I will update the composed message and send it. The comes the fun part of trying to report on that.

Thanks again to all for your generous support by way of patience and cooperation.

Next post will be (part5) engineers propose solution steps

Stay tuned

You’ve exceeded the posting limits. Please try again in a few minutes.

yep! posting limits again. Continuing to try again every "few minutes"

After all this, I won't be surprised if they remove me from Support Communities entirely.

<< end of Part 4>>

I will definitely pursue that angle with her.

I find myself suddenly incompetent at posting replies and I have fragmented my replies badly.

there are 6 parts to what I am saying, so please read on.

In the end, after finding a dumb mistake when I failed to follow the engineers instruction, I did get dictation working (at least for now) on my iPhone 5s with ios12 by making changes in the setup parameters for the keyboard support.

I consider that a bypass rather than a solution for me, but maybe it really is a solution for the IOS13 version of dictation support.

I don't know, but maybe there are similar settings for the dictation and keyboard support on desktop.

In any case I will ask Crystal for the best way to proceed with what you need.

She will know if a new case has to be opened with desktop support, and if so, she will probably want you to be the customer for that case. After all, I have zero background with using Apple desktop at all. When I can, I'll get some answers back to get you plugged in.

I don't think we want to do much more right away. i.e. during our thanksgiving dinner preparation and feasting.

I'll reply back to you again as soon my circumstances allow me to.
