Hi everyone, you all know by now that you need to adjust date to fix this but what really works is to adjust the date to mid 2017. It won't work if you adjust to current date.

pdenyer,

I was able to successfully install El Capitan, following Charlee78's suggestion to set date at Terminal on OSX Recovery mode before continuing with OSX installation.

  1. Download El Capitan from another early 2008 iMac, compatible only until El Capitan.
  2. Made a bootable El Capitan USB
  3. press Option key and boot from El Capitan USB; Go to Utilities, Open Terminal, set date to 0706105017, (that is July 06, 2017 at 10:50am; date is set about over 2 years prior current date, I just pick a random day in mid 2017 as suggested by Charlee78), exit Terminal
  4. Proceed with OSX installation.

I now have a running clean installation of El Capitan on an external Samsung EVO 860 SSD drive. Thank you, Charlee78
