Mac mini i3 vs i5/i7

Hi Everybody,

I bought the 2018 Mac mini i3 with 512 GB SSD and 16 GB RAM last November. I knew the i3 wasn't the greatest but with the increased RAM and SSD space I thought it would be good enough. I'm finding that it just is not.

Are there any i5 or i7 owners out there that can share any experiences with their Mac Mini 2018s? Or even i3 owners?

There are several factors that can influence the feel and affect the performance.

(background process, the type of App's, the number of App's that are running, Free Drive Space, etc..)

The best way to see what is happening, is to run EtreCheck Pro and post back here with the Report.

I agree with den.thed, give us an EtreCheck report and let us know how you are using it. I used an i3 and i5 at the Apple Store and didn't notice any difference between them. Based on previous experience, I expected an i5 would be a bit more future proof than the i3 which is why I went that route. In general, I've tended to select the middle option rather than the bottom. But for general usage I wouldn't expect the i3 model to be slow.
