Microphone has started adding the word "catch" or "catch up" to what I have dictated

Apple support tried to help me when I called in with this “catch up“ problem. What they suggested did not help, I don’t think they understand the problem yet. This is what it just typed when I stop talking:

I am having the exact same problem when I dictate,. All of the same words come up that you listed. I noticed that it happens usually when I’ve paused. I have an iPhone 6. It seems to happen more often when I’m dictating text messages although it does also happen with all of the applications. It seems like this has been going on for several months by now ( longer than others are reporting in this thread) . The last time that I searched to see if anybody else was complaining about it I couldn’t find anything. Is writing about this here enough to get Apple’s attention or do we need to report this elsewhere?

I don’t think anyone from Apple reads this. You have to call Apple support and tell them there are lots of us having this problem. They will then try to fix it on your phone as if it’s your phone that’s the problem. Mine is still doing it. I have an iPhone 11.

Happens to me too. here is what I posted and got a few replies, but no fix for whatever the bug is yet.

it’s driving me crazy, the words (catch catchy, catchup) appears in every talk to text message I make, every time I stop speaking for a few seconds. Did not happen on any previous iPhones only this new iPhone 11.

This is happening with my mom’s iphone 11 as well. She’s taken it to the Apple store and Sprint. No one can seem to fix it. They just gave her a new phone and it’s STILL doing it. There’s got to be more than just a few people with this issue. Any suggestions?

Have you seen the full list of the utterly crazy words & phrases that are being inserted? From what I can tell, the words get inserted whenever there's a PAUSE in dictation, and even at the very beginning. I'll see if I can find another thread with the long list.

Here's a list of commonly inserted words & phrases (hard to believe a developer would go to this much trouble to do this on purpose):

Holy cow! During that pause, it inserted the words “Apple Pay“ which have nothing to do with catch.

Did it again, but I sure don’t know what Sprecher means.

I better just give up on this post and try again.

Terms of use for discussions prohibit talking about reporting problems to apple. We are just supposed to discuss the use of their products user-to-user. However, I feel obliged to tell you that after a full month of extraordinary effort, we now have a case number assigned to this problem and an Apple Senior Advisor has taken ownership of that case. I’ve been doing some experimenting to try to make this problem more recreatable. I could use some help. Anyone interested?

It’s 4 AM in my time zone. Thanks a bunch Chrissy catch. Catchy looks like my re-create the probleem catchy theories catchy might be successful. Catching I’ll do my best to organize this effort ASAP. If we can teach engineers at Apple the technique for re-creating the problem it will increase the odds of having a solution significantly. Catch There you go catch and I want to try my experiments on different device types, models and software levels.

It's happening on my iPhone6. It seems to be getting worse. I'm glad I found this page. I thought I was the only one getting "Catch or Catchy. Sometimes I don't notice until after I've sent the message. I hope the recipients don't think I'm nuts.

Unfortunately, toggling those features off is far worse for me than proofreading my text messages. Nevertheless, I did actually toggle all these features off and then on again one by one. End result: the problem got worse after everything was re-enabled than it was before I turned them all off and then on again.

This is the most frustrating thing! It's happening increasingly often, too! In my case it's "catch" or "catcher" or "catchy." So glad I finally Googled the question - I thought it was something I was doing!
