Microphone has started adding the word "catch" or "catch up" to what I have dictated

I dictate with microphone into iphone text messages frequently. Recently the microphone has started adding the word "catch" or "catch up" to what I have dictated, always at the beginning of a sentence, or at a pause in the dictation. It gets the rest of the sentence right. This is not a case of the microphone functionality misunderstanding what I have said. It is an addition to what has been said. I have to delete these extra words. Any ideas on fixing or what is going on?

I am having the exact same problem when I dictate,. All of the same words come up that you listed. I noticed that it happens usually when I’ve paused. I have an iPhone 6. It seems to happen more often when I’m dictating text messages although it does also happen with all of the applications. It seems like this has been going on for several months by now ( longer than others are reporting in this thread) . The last time that I searched to see if anybody else was complaining about it I couldn’t find anything. Is writing about this here enough to get Apple’s attention or do we need to report this elsewhere?

I just received my friends iPhone 6 in the mail as she upgraded. It’s even doing that on the six so it isn’t just your phone the 11. So frustrating because I don’t always see that it through the word “catch or catch up” is in there. I send my message and then I feel like a moron because the receiver on the other end might not understand why the word is in there. It ruins the message!

I have been having this problem For months - it’s very disruptive.

And I just tried breathing and it does not create these random words.

As with every issue I have with my Apple devices, when you search for the problem it shows you everything but what you’re looking for like there’s never a problem.

Another issue is how dictation will change what you said while you are talking and even after; sometimes it changes the moment you press send on a text.

And every so often it will erase every single thing you typed and retype it but if you lose connectivity you will lose everything you said. (Of course on this particular reply it’s been perfect.) There’s no reason why they can’t have local voice recognition you shouldn’t need the Internet.

I just left a link to the first page of this thread with Apple Support in their survey asking me about my "recent Apple Support experience". Perhaps if enough of us do that they will see that a fix is in order. I would imagine that their own developers have iphones that are doing the same annoying thing. Maybe they don't realize or care because they don't use the dictation function. ?? I thought it might be a weird hack of my phone when I first searched to see if anyone else was asking about this and didn't find anything. I am sorry that we are all dealing with this but somewhat relieved it is not due to a hack of my phone. May this be the worst of our problems and may this problem resolve soon!

Like many others the words catch, catchy, catch up catcher etc Are endlessly inserted into my dictation for months now. I have been to the Apple Store three times in the last two weeks with different techs ... None of whom have been apprised of this problem. I have had my phone totally erased and reloaded… With all the problems and inconveniences of doing so… I Have had a second iCloud account set up… Etc. All needlessly since this information should be in the hands of those who are there to fix problems!!

First, I love (hate) how they make you login to even see a forum when linking from an update email.

I also have noticed this isn't happening anymore. I think that it is vile that they so enthusiastically try and channel users to the forums, but they don't apparently monitor them, give complaints any credibility, or respond.

I was also asked to reset my iPhone to factory settings through iTunes, downloading fresh software, and then restoring from a backup and logging back into everything. I didn't do it because I thought it was stupid and I knew the problem WASN'T ON MY DEVICE. It is so frustrating to rely on the cloud for voice recognition (even "call Bob") *especially when the quality of the result is so variable and can be much worse if you have a bad connection. Once, while driving out of my house it switched from wifi to cellular and everything that it typed was ERASED so it could rewrite it and sometimes it just deletes it. Or, what about when it keeps changing a word back and forth multiple times between the correct and incorrect dictation - only to change it back to wrong one just as your sending!

I don't mind that they're not perfect, I mind that they are so arrogant and make things that should be simple difficult. Give me on-device voice recognition. My friend's name is Randy. If you say "call Randy" it will type out "call Randy" and then call "Andy" or "Sandy" - why? Or it will dictate text and when you go to edit it says you need to unlock. But when you unlock the dictated text is gone. Or it will say there is no such person, but when you go into Contacts, the person is there.

I guess I just need to "Reset all Network Settings", just to be safe and all will be well!
