Text message notification sounds keep beeping even when sound is switched off

Since I updated my phone last week, every time I am using my phone and someone sends me a text message it makes a beep alert even though I have sounds turned off for text message alerts. It’s really annoying because I don’t want sound alerts for texts, and I don’t want to turn silent mode on because I don’t want to miss calls.

How can I stop the sound alerts? Is there something in the actual message app, or under another section in settings?

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand your incoming text are producing an unexpected alert noise. I’ll be happy to help with this.

Go to Settings > Notifications > Messages on your iPhone. Look under Sounds. If that has an alert tone, tap on it and choose None. Restart your iPhone and see if this helps at all.

If that doesn’t help, back up your iPhone and reinstall iOS using the steps from these links:
