I have a cell in a sheet that tallies a number of cells with time durations ( 10h 30m, etc...) and I would like to put a cell next to it that reads that as a number (for example 10h 30m as 10.5 ). I convert the cell type from duration to number but it doesn't stay.

you can use the Dur2Hours function.
there are a whole lot of extra functions dealing with durations in numbers that dont exist in other programs.
