Apple tv is not working on chrome or firefox

I've tried streaming See on 3 different android devices using both chrome and firefox. The show started playing and then stopped 10 minutes in and all day today I haven't been able to play it again. I've tried on wifi and data, neither connection made a difference. I've also tried different shows and none are working.

I can confirm, if you use the Chrome extension, User Agent Switcher, the video plays just fine. If it doesn't at first, click the 10 seconds forward button and it should play.

Obviously I shouldn't have to say that this needs to be fixed, but it needs to get fixed.

So here's the deal... Apple obviously did not QA (quality assurance) browser support at all. Maybe just some random passionate engineer got it pushed thorugh even though it was not a priority for launch. That's unfortunate that marketing and PM's (Product managers) did not feel it should be a first class citizen for launch.

What is to be done now?

Given that apple support has not responded to any of us, I'd say anyone wanting browser support for apple tv + should just cancel and provide feedback or file a support ticket. Honestly I don't think they really care. This was an initiative pushed through and I don't feel like anyone is at the wheel. Great follow through Apple! Dooming your video streaming service before it could even begin!

As to the god-honest-problem here? It's possible it's a session timeout set at around 12-15 minutes. But I'd suggest it's more likely a DRM issue where some apple exec has decided to be over-zealous with the browser restrictions cause they are so paranoid about their stuff being pirated. Who is hurt by DRM again? Is it the pirates? No apple, it's always the customer. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video, HBO, and many others learned this long ago.

Apple, do yourselves a favor and hire some engineers from the other streaming services. You can surely afford to pay them.

BTW, I'm available for hire as well.

Same problem, I've tried Chrome and Firefox.

Chrome won't play at all due to it never buffering the video. Tried with AdBlock completely disabled and with Incognito mode. It sits at a black screen with 0:00 to the left of the time bar.

With Firefox I managed to watch 2 episodes. The first episode was blurry for the first few minutes before cleaning up, the 2nd stopped twice in the middle of playback but was able to resume. The third attempt to watch an episode started out fine for about 20 seconds then stopped and killed the player in the browser. After refreshing it wouldn't buffer anymore.

AT&T DSL, 40Mbps, I can stream 2 1080p60 streams from Youtube and Twitch simultaneously but Apple can't manage a single TV episode without issues. Canceled for now, will see if it works any better next year.

Yup, it is official, that is one buggy buggy implementation of a "world class" service. I have been trying to watch something for about 3.5 hours. Troubleshooting and hacking my way through it. I tried it on 5 computers, with and without firewalls, disabled AV, incognito, administrative rights....you name it.

I even chatted with several levels of Apple support. Support is truly top notch but i suspect this service is so new they just don't have data\service reports. I think they were all convinced it was my configuration but after finally finding this post I can officially give up.

By the way, I wonder if this a geographic block. Just an FYI, I am in Canada.

Good luck all (Don't sign up for a full year just yet)

Cheers,

Chris

I started in Firefox on PC. Had the same issue of video stopping after ten or so minutes. Tried Chrome and it wouldn't play at all. Did the user agent trick...yay, video played in Chrome! For about ten minutes and stopped. This product has been out for a week. It's ridiculous this is still an issue. I just want to watch For All Mankind on my Windows computer. I guess that is too much to ask for. I'll just go back to Hulu and Netflix. Apple should have just been upfront that the service was only meant to work on their devices.

I also subscribed to apple tv plus so that i can watch on my firetv stick and on web browser like chrome or mozilla, on fire tv stick i found the same issue where the video stops playing after 10 mins and you have to hit the back button and play again to continue watching. So i decided to test it on browser Chrome and Mozilla, on chrome the video was laging on full screen and it stopped playing exactly after 10 mins and i had to referesh the screen to continue again. Mozilla the video playout was smooth but it stopped playing as usual after 10 mins and i had to referesh and start again. All the issues are quite irritating and i have to unsubcribe to the services if they dont solve this issue. If anyone has any better solution please ping...

Based on my experience on a PC with a fast internet ethernet connection and using Google Chrome, The web site tv.apple.com is fixed and works well. I've watched an entire episode at a high resolution on my 55" tv. The only possible issue would be that if the episode is left mid episode there is no resume function an it will start at the beginning. You have to remember where you were and seek that point.
