AirPod Pro Microphone Call Quality

Since using the Airpod Pros this week and on calls people have been commenting on how they are having a hard time hearing me. This is something that never happened with my regular AirPods. From what I can gather it sounds like the external noise cancellation or noise reduction algorithm is getting confused with the noise outside and my voice and effectively cutting out or reducing my voice and boosting the background noise.

Are others running into this problem? The common complaint I’m getting when talking on the phone with the Airpod Pro is that the background noise is too loud.

Yes it is happening to me as well!! People say I am muffled and cannot hear me very well. 😡

I paid a lot for these and to have the Pro name there should not be any muffling when using the mic to talk!!! Come on Apple..........

Yes it is happening to me as well! People say my voice is muffled and they cannot hear me. Also, they're really sensitive that if i move my head quickly, they disconnect. How can you even workout with this?

I paid a lot for these. There should not be any muffling when using the mic to talk! As for voice calls, my existing airpods sound so much better than the Airpod Pro. I love Apple products but the Airpods Pro design really sucks.

The counterfit cases I had mentioned were bought in Authorized Apple stores and verified with Apple using using the Serial Number. The counterfiters have found ways to get into several stores, specially outside the US. Those copies are so identical that can fool anyone.

Ignorance is basically lack of information, the more information you have, the better. Stupidity is based on lack of common sense to find a real root cause.

Verifing yourself that you do not have a counterfit product is just the first step of a Scientific Root Cause Analysis. You will be surprised how many people in this forum may have one.

Hi everyone, please don't get me wrong but I told this countless of times before, everyone is facing this issue but nobody actually takes an action. If we all share, re-share or tweet with the same issue and hashtags then Apple will see that and we will create awareness. So please re-tweet or share this on all over social media, this isn't acceptable, we all spend £249 or $249 and can't even use this device!!! Here is my tweet:

Spent the last two hours fiddle farting with Apple support. In the end they tried to sell me a replacement set of AirPods for $218.

"Apple support" that's an oxymoron isn't it???

I had the Airpods 1 with my iPhone X and call quality was fantastic, I was amazed that people could even hear me at work as it is a very noisy environment, I gave that pair to my daughter as I found I wasn't using them much. some time later I purchased the iPhone 11pro and then a pair of airpods 2, I mainly used them for phone calls at home in a quiet room and had no problem with phone calls, I then took them to work and immediately found that if there was any ambient noise people could not hear me at all, tried all the re pairing etc etc and ended up returning them for a refund thinking they were faulty and ordering the airpod pro, and as mentioned they are worse than the airpods 2, if I am in a quiet room they work fine, but something has changed, I recall when the series 1 was released they had that special cone algorithm microphone to pick up just the noise from your mouth, it is so disappointing that this is the case, I only have these for phone calls and was so impressed when I had the series 1, that is why I thought the series 2 must have been faulty, but it is obviously an issue with the later series or the updates, I find that even my 11 pro isn't as smooth as my X with the touch screen, I feel all the things that once made Apple my goto choice without question starting to fade, things should be improving when you upgrade not get worse, we pay $2000 for an iPhone 11pro here in Australia and $400 for the airpods pro, pay more get less, come on Apple lift your game

I have noticed the same issue. My partner complains that she can't understand what I'm saying. The treble response is far too low. There is also too little treble in the playback, and music sounds different to me than it does on my EarPods, or any other headset. I keep looking for an equalizer function to add more treble in, but if such a feature exists, I can't find it. Very poor quality for such an expensive product. I am disappointed that so many professional reviewers either failed to notice these flaws, or actively covered them up.

I think with 17 pages of this we can conclude there is an issue with the Airpod Pros with regard to call quality whether it's ANC conflict or design. I've reported through product feedback with bench testing we've done using a number of devices, software updates, AppleCare directives and purchase of several new AirPods. Our company went through every conceivable path and found in each one we could replicate the issue and reported each of them here.

The only remedy at this point if you are noticing this issue on calls and it's not usable, is to return them. We are confident that this will be addressed by Apple in future releases. For now, we simply chose something else. That is the best way to get Apple's attention.

Hello all, I have been through 5 pairs of Air Pods 2nd Gen all with my wife complaining she could not hear me well in the car. Muffled and not clear, she hated talking to me on my Air Pods. I bought Air Pods Pro and she still complained. So i returned all of them. I recently bought the Air Pods Pro again and i think i have found a solution that might work. Still testing, but so far so good on call quality. Air Pods Pro have a setting where you can set Noise Cancellation on 1 Air Pod(in Accessibility menu on iPhone) For calls I always only use 1 pod(Left). I have the setting to only using the mic on the Left Pod and that is the only one I use for calls. Once you set Noise Cancellation for 1 pod on(in Accessibility on iPhone), it seems to work for calls pretty good. I have been struggling with this for some time, cause i really wanted the Air Pods to work. I hope this helps you...

Hi All. I received my replacement air pods pro and although they are still not as good in a noisy area for phone calls as my 1st gen air pods they are improved, I read there was a firmware update recently, You don't know it has installed as it is an automatic installation with no notifications that it has been done. I suspect like many big manufacturers, there is no acknowledgment of a common fault unless it affects the majority of the products, they just fix it in the background and roll it out without people knowing, that is if it is a software issue and not a hardware issue. I have since done the microphone selection as well and think this has helped a bit . at least now they are usable. I thought I would mention there was no hesitation from apple to replace these, so I suspect it is a common enough problem that they know it is not user error. or they want you to be late in returning the old ones so they can charge you the additional $278AUD for not returning them in the short time they give you lol

I have the same issue. I need to re-pair my headphones all the time to not sound muffled. Even when they don’t sound muffled the background noice in an office or in the street becomes to loud for the other end to be able to hear me clearly.

I bought a set of Bose 700 instead which are way superior to these in all ways - mic quality included.

I nowonly use my AirPods when my Bose is not around. And I will never recommend my AirPods to anyone.
