AirPod Pro Microphone Call Quality

Air pods and more so Airpods pro are great at reducing ambient sound and wind noise, however sometimes they reduce the wind noise so much that the voice disappears also, this is worse on the Airpod pros that the standard ones. This can be changed in "Accessibility" not under the air pods settings.

Same issue here and I’ve had them less than a week. Every other function is absolutely amazing, it’s just impossible to talk on the phone with them. I’ve tried every suggestion in this thread to no avail. They’re sending out a box for me to send them in for repair. We shall see what happens.

This might have actually done it. Turned it off a couple of days ago and so far nobody has complained about birds in the trees tweeting or me picking up a carrier bag. Will test it stood by a busy road soon.

we has it taken a year and no one at Apple support suggesting this? Thank you.

Yes I have this problem as well. I live in Toronto and walk everyday and sometimes like to talk on the phone with people. I would say that "NO", these headphones do not have background noise cancellation for callers.

It's a problem I've taken to the Apple store and they are absolutely clueless about them. I have 2 friends and 2 family members with the same headphone and they report the same issue.

Also, I have had my AirPods replaced now a couple times for warranty issues and this problem still persists.

So either, Apple didn't include a caller noise cancellation feature (which would be odd since this has been on phones and headphones for several years now), or it's some firmware issue that will only be fixed if enough people complain about it.

Same for me they are muffled and if I speak loudly for a moment I can get them to switch the microphone somehow to a more clear one. It may be a software issue where it doesn't correctly switch to or initialize the microphones on the AirPods Pro. Brand new nothing but issues can't actually use them for what they were intended for, amazing this isn't going to develop into a class-action lawsuit by now. Selling a product that doesn't do what it's advertised to do is a big problem.

Hi, I bought the AirPod Pro for my wife as a birthday gift.

Her sister has them too.

Both have this issue and especially my wife is complaining about this to me.

I already sent them in once but got them back.. the could not be tested because I only sent the Pods and not the case (why!?).

I asked my wife to turn off the automated switching of the Microphone and to fix the mic on either left or right pod as I have read on page 17 as advice from some users where it seems to have solved the issue.

The first test call was promising but not sure if the issue is fixed.

I gifted her an Apple product because I thought I pay a high price for good quality and good features.

I recently also had to get her MacBook Pro fixed because of flex gate and a battery service.

It's just way too much banana in these products for the price.. but I'm glad that the shareholders are happy.

I was just telling my sister the same thing yesterday! They’re so expensive to be so finicky.

My AirPods Pro are not always reliable with my MacBook. Sometimes the case doesn’t charge the headphones. It’s a nightmare. I just had them replaced and now they’re acting up again.

Not to mention they gave me swimmer’s ear. Horrible. I love WFH but the headphone drama is ridiculous.

Thanks however if you read the comments transparent mode along with any and all modes live listen etc does not fix this issue. Its a hardware problem that the mics pick up and amplify all background noise no matter what making the call listener forced to loudly hear whatever you may be doing.

I agree with Robert. None of the selecting mics or transparency mode or noise cancellation off works. I have had replacements and I have been tearing my hair out. BUT as Robert says, SDantigua’s post seems to work. I’ve had no complaints since doing it. You need to turn the phone noise cancellation off. Nothing to do with AirPod settings.

For a larf I tried Robert’s method once again with my recently replaced airpod pros and zero change. Sadly this is a hardware issue I think or apple would/should have patched it long ago. Really and truly remarkably poor form from Apple for an alleged “pro” product. Cannot use for calls at all. Business calls especially!

I have finally received my first pair of AirPods they are AirPod Pro to be exact. They were a birthday gift and I was so excited to get them. However my excitement was short lived. I am having the exact same issue as everyone else. My callers are saying I sound like I’m either far away or muffled. My niece has the regular AirPods and when talking to her she sounds just fine, as if she’s talking directly through her phone. Apple please fix this issue so that we all can trade these in for a pair that actually works properly and free of charge. This is definitely not except able considering how much all Apple products cost period.

Apple refuses to fix or acknowledge the issue. I had mine for two days before sending them in, they sat there for 3 weeks before they looked at them and in less than a day their response was “there’s nothing wrong with them”. So apparently we’re making this up?

Yes yes yes. The noise the pros picks up is so bad that I can’t do anything at all while on a phone call without the person I’m talking to saying I’m killing their ears. I love my AirPod Pros but if I can’t use them to talk on the phone they are useless. Is there a fix?

I finally went to the Genius Bar and they changed both AirPods Pro. The right mic was unusable and both had sound and filter problems. It took around one hour to diagnose (they were in the middle of a rush).

It’s like day and night, they sound so good now, wow!!
