AirPod Pro Microphone Call Quality

Since using the Airpod Pros this week and on calls people have been commenting on how they are having a hard time hearing me. This is something that never happened with my regular AirPods. From what I can gather it sounds like the external noise cancellation or noise reduction algorithm is getting confused with the noise outside and my voice and effectively cutting out or reducing my voice and boosting the background noise.

Are others running into this problem? The common complaint I’m getting when talking on the phone with the Airpod Pro is that the background noise is too loud.

Yes it is happening to me as well!! People say I am muffled and cannot hear me very well. 😡

I paid a lot for these and to have the Pro name there should not be any muffling when using the mic to talk!!! Come on Apple..........

I’m a UPS driver and I when take calls while driving with my AirPod pros and it seems when any wind blows on the microphone will trigger the noise cancelling feature but it doesn’t only cancel background noise, it cancels out user voice. Very unfortunate, because the sound quality is better on these then the originals but it is very inconvenient and disappointing due to the price point. Apple needs to fix this but I don’t think they’ll do any type of recall because that would be too much money on their part, I just hope they fix the issue with future generations.

I'm having this exact same issue. I can't take phone calls on from my iPhone or Mac book. Everyone complains that they can hear background noise better than they can hear me. This is even a problem in relatively isolated environments. I really hope this gets addressed. These have been my favorite headphones, but I don't use them because I can't use them to take phone calls! Please help!

7500 people and counting, I have had mine a week. People can’t here you but they hear everything in the background thankfully I kept my standard AirPods the pros are going back !

This was my second set having bought on release day. I took them back for crackling issues. Now I thought hey Atmos and spatial must have fixed it by now! NOPE 👎 awful to listen to things amazing to have a conversation trash.

hello guys!

First of all I love the airpods pro and I am glad that they are so much powerful technology

BUT

I did little bit research and unfortunately the microphone will not be better even if you will replace them for new. I saw one guy on youtube video who compare the all bluetooth earphones microphones and they all are very bad in my opinion 🤣 I am working in noisy environment and I have experience with both airpods and airpods pro. With the airpods I didn’t have issue with mic but since I upgraded to pro I just can’t call with them. It picking the other sounds and the person doesn’t hear me. I just can’t get it why the normal airpods has better mic even if they are on Bluetooth. Maybe because unfortunately it is sacrifice for cancel noise that they have. I am so happy that I have them because from this time I don’t hear the loud noise of the machines. Hope the airpods 3 will come with better mic.

Hi, i read this :

What you’re looking for is another feature added in iOS 15 called Mic Modes. There are three: Standard (how the microphone has worked for years), Voice Isolation (filters out the background noice so the person you’re calling isn’t disturbed by your neighbor moving their lawn; it’s what’s you’re looking for) and Wide Spectrum (let’s put the entire soundscape; useful for things like calling someone from a concert so they can clearly hear the music).
It’s not what comes with this beta firmware. It requires an A12 Bionic processor or newer (iPhone XR/XS or newer).

Anyone mounting iOS 15 beta can do this test please?

Thanks!

I have the same problem bad call quality from air pod pros from friends and family. I am having better call quality from a set of cheap soundpeats earphones.

To pay $349.00 for AirPod pros is a lot of money. Hoping the iOS 15 will fix this issue. Very embarrassing when people cannot hear you. These have been replaced by apple and still same issue.

I honestly think they don’t care, I explained to a manager of a store in London that the old standard AirPods have amazing audio quality for calls yet the New Pro! Again Pro!! Is awful I explained over 7000 people on here feel this way. I thought watching movies with the Dolby Atmos was incredible truly incredible but and it’s a massive but the audio is just well ****! Apple if your reading this it’s going to be another mobile me situation. Sort it out and talk to each other ffs don’t spoil a product get it fixed.

I have read through this thread. Perhaps I have missed something new but I am having a huge issue with the microphone on my AirPod Pro. Microphone quality is extremely poor. I have reset multiple times using both ways of re-connecting. I have changed accessibility settings. Still my voice quality is terrible. Any suggestions?

I called Apple and they told me that I could put them in for repair but they weren’t under warranty any longer so I’d have to pay for it. Why would I pay for their known defect? They really don’t give a ****. Thankfully I bought them at Costco and their return policy doesn’t exist so I’ll be taking them back today and buying something that I can actually use on a phone call. You should be ashamed of yourself Apple. I have all of your products and now I seriously doubt if I’m going to be replacing them with new Apple products

I have never posted on an apple community forum (even when they changed the "gold" on apple watches), but this is a ridiculous problem that make my airpods pro useful only for non-human listening. I have to remove them to take a call and hopefully have my case on me or then my sister is accidentally in my pocket unless I make additional efforts. Adding to this forum to simply increase the volume of activity, since that is how companies decide what issues are really impacting customers. I have also had my airpods pro replaced, reset, restarted. The MOST frustrating thing is when the apple support team explains noise cancellation (which is for my benefit not the caller). Anyway... Just piling on in this forum, because it is ridiculous that my most expensive pair of wireless headphones from a brand like Apple are unusable for their primary purpose.

Having the same problem. Tried clean unpairing/pairing - with macbook air M1 and iPad. No improvement. The odd thing is that it seemed to have been fine for a while as folks at the other end of a conf call have commented about the good audio quality. However, in the recent weeks, this has shifted to "I can't hear you", "Your voice is low", "Your voice is muffled" etc. I took it to the nearby Apple service store and they updated the firmware for me. No changes post that too. I feel cheated for having paid so much money for such poor call quality.
