AirPod Pro Microphone Call Quality

Since using the Airpod Pros this week and on calls people have been commenting on how they are having a hard time hearing me. This is something that never happened with my regular AirPods. From what I can gather it sounds like the external noise cancellation or noise reduction algorithm is getting confused with the noise outside and my voice and effectively cutting out or reducing my voice and boosting the background noise.

Are others running into this problem? The common complaint I’m getting when talking on the phone with the Airpod Pro is that the background noise is too loud.

Here's what I found. There are two ways to pair/connect the AirPods.

1) As described in the manual where you simply open the lid of the Airpods and bring them close to the iPhone then follow the instructions.

2) Where you go into your Bluetooth settings and search for and pair the Airpods the way you would do other Bluetooth devices.

The same 2 options also apply to subsequent connections after initial pairing.

When I pair or connect using Option 2 above, the telephone quality is awful for the person I'm calling as they hear background noise almost like it has been amplified. I suspect that is because if I connect to my AirPods this way, the noise reduction functionality doesn't work as expected.

When I connect or pair using Option 1, the sound quality is perfect for the person I'm calling and they hear little background noise.

I'm not saying this will help solve your own issues but I thought it might be helpful to share what I've found.

Thanks

Ian

Airpods Pro for sale!??

These are not very user friendly. Sometimes they work sometimes they don't constantly cutting out. phone calls all sound horrible regardless how I pair them. I have a cheap set of amazon earbuds that work flawlessly for 100$. Seriously Apple?? My household is all Apple products, you'd think these would just play well with it's kind..LOL

I think it might be time for us to vote with our feet. I've purchased Apple products almost from the very beginning. I got the awesome iPod Classic and it still works flawlessly. My first iPhone was the Apple 3G and it's been replaced with one iPhone version after another. I've had 3 or 4 different versions of iPads. Big Fan! Not so much anymore. When a company ignores us in this way, it's time to send a strong message to get their attention. You want our business? Stop behaving like a knock-off company. My regular AirPods that cost just $100 work perfectly. The AirPod Pro's....at double the price...are junk. Yet nobody's listening. I've had a love relationship with Samsung products that eventually shifted to a meh relationship. Maybe it's time to consider Samsung again.

also can someone suggest a good pair of earphones which can actually let me take calls when i am on the move or in a public place? whole purpose of having a wireless earphone is defeated if one has to use them in a private space without any ambient noise.

I will just think this is money down the drain and buy a model and brand which fulfils my need.

Same here, I am on a lot of calls and some I can do in while walking or in the gym. This used to work well before on my Jabra sport earpieces but wanted the AirPods as the noise cancellation is great. It ends up with me back in 1998 with holding the iphone up at my head for the meeting participants to hear me. This is absolutely ridiculous. My Jabra is 5 years old and they have better microphone than this overpriced, gold laced pos. Sorry but this is not good enough for the premium we pay

How is the microphone so bad on the AirPod pros? I can’t use my airpods for work or personal calls because the person on the other end can ear what’s happening in the walls every direction around me 5x better then I can yet I sound like I’m talking into an empty family sized soup can. Very disappointed in this Apple product. Would not recommend.

The headphones is great for music and noise cancellation, it’s terrible for calling. I’m disappointed beyond words, I’ve always been a android guy but work forced me to go iPhone, if this is the quality they sell for that premium price it’s a rip off. Will go buy a Jabra or sennheiser this weekend, the EarPods fits well in the drawer

i don’t think anything’s worked for anyone. For me, I wasted 3 hours of my workday in the Apple shop queue then one hour troubleshooting what you do at home before getting to the Apple shop. Got a new set of AirPods straight from the Kellogg’s Frosties box and they said if it doesn’t work, wait for next firmware update. I asked when that would be and they didn’t know. Apple; serving your board members .

buy stocks guys, cause they’re selling Lada tech at a Mercedes price model.

Me too, i cannot take a call i any environment, even in my quiet room. And even after apple replace my airpods, the problem are still there.

So now when i receive call i need to take off the airpod pro because the people cannot hear me correctly.

I really doubt the pro in the name of these allegedly "Airpod pro". Be able to Take a call should be one of important feature for a professional.

Its 2023 and nothing changed.
