strange code/characters in email

I have received emails on my iphone from 2 different people where the email consists of characters & symbols that look like a code or different language. Both senders are known to me and are from trusted companies and it is the first time I have received such emails from them and the same emails received on my computer I fine so at least I know what the are saying. I contacted both & they have not had any trouble with emails so I presume it is my iphone with the problem. Any way I can stop this in future?

Thanks for your reply Tom. I was able to talk to a specialist at Apple. We deleted & restored the iPhone & deleted & restored my email address. It took a long time but it seems to have fixed the problem & the original problem emails came through correctly. Very relieved to have it sorted.
