Probably simple but what do I need to watch dvds on my iPad Pro 10.5 please - yeah, I have a dvd!!

You can't. The iPad has no DVD payer software, and cannot access a DVD drive in any way.
Best to rent or buy movies from iTunes, or use a streaming service such as Netflix or Prime video to watch movies and shows.
