AirPods Pros making crackling static noises

I recently received my new AirPod Pro ear buds. First off let me say the noise cancellation is a transforming. That aside, the old problem of making a popping sound followed by a buzz seems to still plague these ear phones.

For reference, I left them in the charging case plugged in overnight. I had them in for about 2 hours at work and then they started I started noticing a faint popping/clicking noise that starts in the right then the left and is a single pop in each ear.  If they are in transparency mode, it pops then has a 1.5-2 second buzzing sound.  If it is in noise cancellation mode it merely pops.  It will do this in one ear, then repeat about 5-10 seconds later on the other ear.

I tried alternating between transparency mode and noise cancellation mode.  I tried playing music and pausing music. I placed them back into the case and took them out again.  I contacted Apple Support in order to work through this and am attempting to figure out what's going on.

I was able to get it to momentarily stop by placing them back in the charging case for about 30 seconds to a minute and then back into my ears. Has anyone seen this on the past models, or with the current ones, and know why it happens?

I have the same thicking/crackling sound, only in the right ear AirPod Pro. The problem occurs in transparency mode, in noice cancellation mode, but not when both modes are turned off. So, seems to be a sortware issue? I tried all the suggested steps above, but none seem to work. Apple, please help me. These things are too expensive to have bugs.

I thought that also. It seemed to happen with my first pair right after I did the latest update. I can’t wait for them to fix it. I only have 14 days to return for a full refund. I ordered the 2nd gen from Costco for $155. I’ll just use these till they fix the issue and maybe I’ll order them again 👍

This is exactly the same issue I’m having only mine pop when I walk. Which is maddening. I’m not even listening to things with the sound that high or high bass.

Before the first firmware update my left earbud loudly squawked when I put it into my ear after a few days of use.

I also see that sometimes my left earbud simply doesn’t charge and that’s when the case is on a charger. Case 100%, right earbud 100%, left earbud 40%.

I'm hoping Apple fixes this soon.

My left airpods pro got replaced today with a new one.

But I was having problem syncing both of them, until I had to reset to factory default each individual airpods pro.

Reset to Factor Default for the right airpods pro.

Reset to Factor Default for the left airpods pro.

Reset to Factor Default for the for both right and left airpods pro.

Finally it both Right and left airpods pro sync, and able to pair properly.

Some technician said needed to leave the airpods for 30minutes for firmware update. but in my case it was still not working after leaving them both in the case for 30minutes.

I’ve had this happen with my power beats pro. I fought with Apple for 3 months to get a working pair that doesn’t have this crackling sound. They were very tough to work with and didn’t seem to care since they already had my $250. Now I have the AirPods pro and this crackling noise is still happening. It helps to have the phone open to my music (Spotify), but only works sometimes. I’m thinking it’s just bad Bluetooth. Save time and money by just going to another headphone manufacturer honestly.

I am having the same issue. When I set the noise cancelling mode ON then I hear clicking sounds on the left bud. If I set transparent mode or Off mode then the noise does not occur. I seriously think that the Noise cancellation mode is not working as expected and it seems that the airpods go on a hyper-drive to control all ambient noises and end up making their own sounds.

I will be taking them to the Apple Store soon and see what they have to say about it.

I've had mine since they came out and I noticed today that in transparency or N.C a distortion will come through. Is this the pop and crackling? I notice it is mainly with lower frequency sounds. It doesn't affect the music. Just outside noise. If the sound is loud enough, it will get the left one to distort also. I've also had a problem where when I take them out or go to put them in, I'll hear loud beeping, almost like a circuit board. Is any of this fixable? I think it's ridiculous that you pay $250 and get problems like this.

I’ve started hearing this annoying crackling in some songs and I didn’t understand why it only happened on the right AirPod... Finally, I tried to turn off noise cancellation and transparency mode, and the issue vanished. The fact that it’s a software issue relieved me so much, you’re right, these things are way too expensive to have bugs, but luckily it’s “just” a bug 😉

So mine is doing it too in the left earbud. Weird things about it. 1. Doesn’t happen when right is not connected 2. Doesn’t happen when silicone tip isn’t on but earbud still placed in ear 3. Messes up a lot when I mess with it in my ear or jar my head a lot. So it’s so difficult to pinpoint the main issue of what is causing it.
