Is there a way to change the font for superscript or subscript in Mojave's Preview PDF application?

I'd like to add twenty or so labels of this kind to a Preview document.

I've noticed others asking similar questions sometimes receive sharp responses stating that Preview is a viewer, not an editor. In fact Preview is a viewer with limited editing capabilities – and the limitations appear to be increasing along the lines of Quicktime. Still, I'm optimistic there may be a way to achieve the above.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Welcome.

First press "command + shift + A" to show the markup toolbar. Select the font, style size, color etc. from the Text Style icon…

Basically you create a text annotation from Tools > Annotate > Text. Click inside the text annotation and type the letter you want. Then "Show Emoji & Symbols" from the menu bar icon. It has to be set in System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard. Select "Digits" from the left column, then double click on the subscript you want.
