Battery Indicator stuck at 100% All day

My battery indicator stays at 100% and then will die without warning. Has anyone had this issue? It started doing this within 2 weeks of receiving the watch, the update (6.1) did fix it temporarily and then a couple of days ago, it started again.

Apple Watch Series 5, watchOS 6

I sent my Series 5 into the repair center (well, my Apple Store sent it there) and it bounced back from them after a couple days, saying they couldn't replicate the problem. They were useless. It's like the Apple Watch falls into this gulch, as far as Apple support goes. It's the only thing they can't try to fix in the store, at their own Genius Bar. And they weren't that happy with the Apple repair center either. Before I read about the turn it off for 15 min and then back on again, I had literally tried every single thing except getting a new watch (which the store said I couldn't get, since Apple Care didn't cover a repair when they couldn't find the problem). But I've read about people here who got new ones and it didn't help the problem. I've restored from previous, from scratch, put it in the freezer (worked a couple days), taken it to the Genius Bar three times and talked to support in Cupertino (I pay $500 a year for Joint Venture Business Support) and the only consistent thing I ever got was that it was a software issue. No updates ever helped. My previous four Apple Watches, each of the series, didn't have this problem. But then I did the 15 min off and back on (I can't remember how much it was already charged when I did that. I think I did it when it had said 100% for 24 hours and I knew it would in the next 6 hours just randomly die. I haven't had any problems since then and that's been around 2-3 months ago that I did it. If anything, it uses up the battery a tiny bit faster than it used to.

I have the same problem. The watch (series 4) displays 100% for over 12 hours. I try to use apps to kill battery, but it doesn’t move. After a while, it ticks down and dies at 80%. I put it on the charger and it says 12%, and within 30 minutes, it “charges” to 100%.

Apple ran diagnostics and the battery is fine. So my options are wait and hope for an update, send it back for $300 and get it back but if the machine does not see a problem then i get it back unrepaired and lost the money, or trade it in for $100 and buy a new one. Absolutely ridiculous to buy a premium product and have subpar service. I’ve had the watch for 15 months, i expect so much more from apple

I have the same problem with AW5 stuck on 100% and battery errors.

Bought first in October and within a few days battery stuck on 100%.

Brought it to Apple store and the test says battery was OK so they offered to send it off for repair.

Since I had just bought it I said I will just return it.

So they replaced it with a new AW5.

Yesterday the same problem recurred.

Stuck on 100% and then just shuts off.

This morning this started getting weirder - ran down to 77% then shut off.

Put it on charger and when it came alive showed 13% and it charged to 99% in 30 minutes...thats not right.

Contacted Apple support chat and they had nothing to offer but the usual.

So off to the Apple store tomorrow ....again.

I will ask for a refund...don't want to try a third watch...jamais deux sans trois.

And yes I tried all the fixes...many times and nothing work.

I am another with the issue: Stays at 100% all day, the goes to the red lightning bolt without warning. The past day or two, it is dying after a few minutes off the charger, while on vacation. Bummer. Have now done multiple hard resets and unpair/repair. Deleted all non-Apple apps. Turned off Noise, reduced motion. Yet to do: Leaving off for Hour(s)/Days and Freezer.

I am on WatchOS 6.1.2 beta 2. Certainly sounds like a software issue, which could/should be fixed.

I tried the freezer thing and for a couple days I was so happy. Worked perfectly. And then went downhill again. So incredibly tiring to do all those multiple hard resets and unpair/repair. At the moment, mine is working ok, though I get nervous when it's 99% after being on my wrist all night long. But haven't had the suddenly stone cold event for awhile, not since it came back from Apple Repair, them saying they couldn't duplicate the issue. They only kept it, literally, one day. The only thing I did different was to not start it as a fresh watch, when I got it back from Apple repair. I chose the version that had previously been on there.

Same issue. AW 4 on 6.1.1. Never had a problem until 6.1.1 update. Same symptoms as everyone else. E have been able get it to work doing the power down but it seems to reappear when charged 99%. Turn it off now says 100%. I think this is clearly a software issue but I can’t find a way to consistently fix it. Apple needs to figure it out and get an update out with a fix

I have an original Apple charger that connects to my computer, and the problem persists. Currently the only solution seems to be the shut down procedure. The problem is it’s difficult to tell when this is necessary, especially if you don’t charge regularly at the same time, or if there is an OS update that requires the charger and puts the whole battery indicator process out of whack.

Yo nailed it Cat. This is exactly what my exp is. I don't think setting up the phone as new will fix this and it would take me days to get everything back to the way I want it so even if this is the case id rather live with just shutting it off 15 min or so a week. Clearly that calibrates the battery until the watch is recalibrated on its own a few times when warm giving the illusion the battery is putting out more voltage which is the case when batteries are warmer. Im hoping 13.4 and AW 6.2 that should be released this month will fix the issue but I doubt it.

I am now on my third AW5. All have had the same problem starting after a week or so. It's hugely frustrating and disappointing to have this problem. As many others have said, the battery life itself seems to be OK but the indicator is hopeless. Today my watch died on 64% ! I have had lengthy discussions with Apple Support in the UK since I bought the first watch at the end of Dec 19. It all seems to avail as the only answer they have is despatching a new watch which develops the same fault after a short period of time. I do wonder whether it's linked to wearing it at night which others have mentioned but I am just guessing. This is an issue for Apple to sort out. It must be a major and widespread issue as I can't be that unlucky with having had three watches now !

I’m not sure what else I can do. Apple Support seems to be stuck on asking me to restore both my iPhone and Apple Watch like new to see if this corrects the issue. Sounds ridiculous to me that I have to reset a $1200 phone and $700 watch so the battery indicator works. I’m not doing it.

In the meantime, While the Apple Watch sits at 100 percent, I use it like normal. Once it hits 99 or 98, I then place it on the charger for an hour. That seems to keep it going for another 20 hours, so there we go. We’re in a pandemic and this is a ridiculous to be upset about.

I get the impression that this has to do with the watch never being shut off over the long term, which is why the resets are helpful for the watch.

Apple does know about this as I have sent an advisor that I have been in contact with this thread, and he acknowledged receiving it. I suspect it has since been passed on to other teams, but this takes time to fix because it occurred during the last iOS overhaul, and it is potentially related to some line of code that is not related to battery resets.

That said, do not send in your watch and do not call this a waste of money, as we have figured out a way to solve the problem in the interim, and are awaiting for Apple to fix it eventually. Our watches are incredible pieces of software when you think about it, so I am not surprised that something like this is happening, as technology is complicated and unintended things happen.

As much as I like Apple the support for this issue is non existent. They have no clue how to support this. I was talking to a senior support person and she had no clue what I was trying to explain to her. I tried uploading pics and she said - ohh I cant get to them, even though she sent me the link. And before I was ready to hang up, I asked can I please speak to anyone higher up. Her reply: "You asked for a senior rep and you have me. If you think someone else can help you, your more than welcome to call in again". Shocked. Your best bet is probably to wait till the stores are open and try then.

But let me tell you - getting a new watch DOES NOT FIX IT! Its a software issue... I've gotten 2 replaced and issue always comes back.
