iMessage to non iMessage users

I am trying to send messages to my friends who's never had an iPhone or used iMessages and my phone switched her messages to iMessage and won’t send as text and when I try and force it as text it doesn’t give me the option. It only gives me send as iMessage or to email. Even when I try and turn off iMessage it just won’t send. Her contact phone # is registered as mobile and not iPhone

iPhone XR, iOS 12

Hi there, trinity3lee.

I see that you're unable to send an SMS message to one of your friends who has never owned an iPhone. I'm glad to help.

About iMessage and SMS/MMS -- Make sure that "Send as SMS" is on under Settings > Messages.

Manage and delete contacts on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- If the is the only contact you're unable to send an SMS message to, delete the contact card from the Contacts application, then restart your iPhone: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch Once you're back to the Home screen, re-add their contact information and test the issue.

If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- If you still can't send a message to them, this article provides the information and steps that you need.

Take care.

You can't. iMessage is from Apple and it only works between Apple Devices like iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Mac. If you use the Messages app to send a message to a non-apple device, it will be send as a SMS instead.

If you cannot send a SMS, you can also use a third-party messenger like FB Messenger or WhatsApp.
