Well, if you cannot uninstall it per the developers instructions you can use FindAnyFile to find anything that has Clean My Mac in it and drag that to the Trash and then empty the Trash. Tedious but it should work.

The other option is do do an erase and install to start over. Then restore your data files from your Time Machine backup and then manually install all of your apps.

Hello Berkee,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I understand the iMac is not shutting down unless you unplug your Mac. I'll do what I can to help.

Does this also happen when you boot to safe mode? Try it out: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

This might also be related to power. Try the steps here to reset the SMC on the iMac: How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac

Cheers.

Please navigate to the Mac App Store and download the free version of EtreCheck OR please click www.EtreCheck.com where you will find the app. Once you downloaded the free app and created the report please post it as your reply to this message. In order to post it, please use the following link for more detailed instructions on how to correctly include the results:

We can then look for obvious issues that may be causing your problem.

Your problem is likely caused by CleanMyMac which is considered malware by most experienced users on these forums. Please locate the uninstall instructions provided by the developers and uninstall.

You also have Malwarebytes installed which is a good app IF you have adware installed or have downloaded some malware. It may be left running in the background however unless you have reason to belive you downloaded some malware or adware, it may not be necessary.

Mac OS is extremely secure and if kept up-to-date and other wise left alone will remain so. It does not benefit from nor does it require any third party antivirus, cleaning or any other third party maintenance apps.

After you have uninstalled CMM please restart in Safe Mode per the directions in https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262 and then restart normally and test.

ok this is really helpful.

i go to Applications folder and Neither of these programs show up. when i go to finder search and enter CMM various folders and applications show up. when i open CMM there is NO menu item anywhere to uninstall it. i go to help in CMM and it says "Here’s how to remove CleanMyMac X with Uninstaller:

  1. Open CleanMyMac X and go to Uninstaller.
  2. Find and select CleanMyMac X in the list of apps.
  3. Click Uninstall.

yet when i open it, i cant find Uninstaller anywhere.

i apologize, im really not that deep into all this stuff, but i couldn't find Uninstaller anywhere......

likewise, in finder I find no program for malwarebytes. for this purposes id like to get rid of that also. after i remove both of these ill proceed with your safe mode directions.

thanks soooo much

Thank you for the reply.

I reset the SMC and there is no difference.

when the system is up and running and I go to Apple, Shut Down, the computer restarts. Intermittently the computer goes to a light grey screen and just stays there. In that case I have to press the power button to power off.

I also attempted to re boot into Safe Mode and it wont boot into Safe Mode. I tap restart, then hold shift key, and no change to the system as it starts up normally.

Thank you again
