iTunes Media folder to GarageBand

When I try to drag an .m4a file from the iTunes media folder to garageband, the file plays fast in garageband. I used to be able to do this (a few weeks ago) with no problem. What is going on?

Hey churchmusicman... I had this issue after upgrading my MacBook to Catalina. I was using GarageBand version 10.1.2 (which came pre-installed on my MacBook when I got it years ago).

I have since removed that version and installed v10.3.3 from the App Store and audio files dropped into GarageBand play at their correct speed.

Hope that helps.

Hello churchmusicman,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I understand files are playing faster when imported into GarageBand on your Mac. I'll do what I can to help.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Redownload the file from the original source then try importing to iTunes/Music then play it to see if it plays normally. If so, continue to import back into GarageBand.
  • Restart your Mac from the Apple () menu then Restart. Try importing again.
  • Import and play the files on your Mac while in safe mode to see if they play normal: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

Take care.
