Bootcamp ACPI_Bios_Error Windows 10 installation

Hi all,

I was running Mojave on a Macbook Pro13,2. I had Windows 10 installed for gaming and one day I ran out of power. After reboot and trying to boot into Windows again I got a blue screen ACPI_BIOS_ERROR since then all **** broke loose.

I tried several time to reboot. Nothing.

There are one/two other threads on this board but they did not help me.

This is what I did:

  • Remove Windows Bootcamp and reinstall - no success
  • Use windows 10 (64) 1607, 1809, 1903. 1909 - no success
  • Use windows 8 (64) - no success
  • Reset SMC / VRAM multiple times - no success
  • updating to Catalina (I am now on Catalina) and try all again - no success
  • using diskutil + unetbootin to create a windows boot usb - no success
  • note: I tried several USB windows boot sticks every time I get the ACPI bios error so I have no chance of installing any windows anymore
  • playing around with clover or how this tool os called so somehow patch acpi - no success / not really know what I am doing here
  • mounting EFI disk0s1 no windows folder only APPLE so I even copied one there from somewhere - no success
  • removing filevault and try all again - no success
  • removing SIP by command+r at boot and terminal: csrutil disable then editing the bootcamp info.plist to add supported model via xcode to get 'create bootdisk' option back - no success for acpi error

I can't even get into recovery tools to 'repair' windows via usb boot stick! crazy!

Bootcamp installs windows then on first reboot acpi bios error so it leaves the bootcamp partition but empty as it never gets past that first reboot.

Help?

No there is a popup where macOS ask me to authorise changes to the computer. I enter my password then the machine restarts. the next thing I see is the Windows icon. Then boom bluescreen ACPI BIOS ERROR.

When I turn the macbook off and plug a windows USB boot stick in on power up, after I select EFI boot, same thing Windows icon for a while then boom ACPI BIOS ERROR and automatic restart.

None of the ACPI extensions that you see on the Apple side are in use when this error happens. Seeing the Windows icon implies that the Windows Kernel is running, not macOS.

Also, on a 2016 MBP, using a USB to install W10 is not recommended.

Ok I used the USB to hopefully get into the windows recovery mode or repair mode to try and fix this from the

Win10 side. But it doesn't let me - I tried so many win10 versions (see original post) on usb all I see is the Windows logo then ACPI BIOS ERROR. Not a chance to even try repair anything on that side.

Ok I tried this and no problems installing on an external; then booted macbook with option key

to select the external disk; no success it doesn't detect it / doesn't show up;

I only have Ubuntu and MacOS to choose from;

I also tried to use Rufus to create another win8 and win7 usb install medium; both successfully created;

win8 on boot (option key) is detected then once selected after a while blue screen with some percentage displayed and ACPI BIOS ERROR as the reason; only stays 2 seconds then reboot;

win7 is also detected at boot (option key) once selected black screen nothing happens.

One more question.

MaxOS boots normally, any windows attempt fails because the ACPI error.
I read on many forums (windows based) you can disable acpi in the BIOS.
Now macbook/macOS doesn't have a BIOS it used stuff from the EFI partition yes?

On a 2016 Mac, there is no BIOS emulation (CSM-BIOS) and there is no user interface to manipulate the emulated BIOS.

What if I delete the EFI volume / partition?

You can. On first page, when I had suggested erasing the 'whole' disk, which would also delete the EFI partition. Re-installing macOS will recreate the EFI partition.

If you mount the EFI partition, do you have a Microsoft directory in the EFI partition?
