IPhone disconnects when importing photos

Hi there! I’m about to loss my mind. I’ve been having this problem for far too long. Every time I go to import my photos from my iPhone 7 onto my windows 10 Acer laptop it begins to import my photos via the windows photo app, but then disconnects after importing 8 or less photos (sometimes doesn’t import at all). I made sure that I have the device driver up to date on my iPhone, and the cord I’m using works just fine. It connects to the computer, it just doesn’t import my photos. Please help :(

iPhone 7, iOS 13

I fixed the issue by removing the screen lock timer and disabeling my antivirus live scanning. I also disabled my firewall but I doubt that had antying to do with it.

Setting-> Display & Brightness -> Auto-Lock

Set it to never for the file transfer and set it back when done.

I've found if transferring anything other than video files it seems to transfer without issues on 'Automatic'. It's only when it's trying to transfer video files where it shows corrupt files and hangs the transfer. You then can switch your phone to 'Keep Originals" to transfer the video files only. It's a pain but that's the only way I've been able to get it to work.

I think you can fix this problem by simply changing a setting on iPhone. Go to Settings/Photos and scroll down to "Transfer to Mac or PC." "Keep Originals" should be checked, not "Automatic."

This step solved my problem too, BUT you need to convert iphone pics in HEIC format to JPG format with a converter in your PC if you want them in jpg/jpeg format. This irritates a lot though. Or else you wont be able to view them in your PC.

This is because that's how the device actually stores your photos/videos. When "download and keep originals" is not selected, it performes an on-the-fly conversion to mov/jpg while transfering. Because of this bugged conversion the transfer fails. You can either convert from heic to jpg/mov yoursef using 3rd party soft (note that heic movies still have mov extension because mov is a container)... or you can set your phone to save the files as non-heic as they are being recorded, by going to settings-> camera->formats and select "most compatible". This will not affect the files already stored, obviously and unfortunately. This setting will also generate slightly larger files on your phone storage and will also not allow 4k 60fps movies,.. but until a fix is applied... these are the only options we have

Hi, I also had this problem and was so annoying. I downloaded the recent itunes, and also disabled the keypad lock on my phone as well as changing from 'automatic' to 'keep originals' on the media transfer settings. So far it has worked seamlessly. If anyone is having this problem, first just try to disable the keypad lock on your phone first as this may be the only solution required, or else then try to update itunes and adjust the transfer settings.

Cheers ;)

Hi,

So i have been having this issue since long. I have tried almost all solutions given in the comments. As i was going through one solution in which i updated itunes. In Itunes it said "If you want to transfer photos from your iphone to computer...." i clicked LEARN MORE. I have pasted screen shot of the page below.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201302?&cid=acs::fm-itunes_HT201302#importpc

I have come across an interesting information on that page that i have highlighted in the screen shot below. It says "If you have iCloud Photos turned on, you need to download the original, full resolution versions of your photos to your iPhone before you import to your PC. Find out how."

There is one thing clear from this official page of itunes: If icloud photos is on, you'll have to use the Keep Originals option.

I have turned it off, and am going to try transferring pictures now. Will post the result in comment. Fingers cross !

I've had mixed levels of success trying various things to get access to my iPhone photos in a productive way. Apple have made this unnecessarily difficult.

However, I've had brilliant success with File Explorer Pro https://skyjos.com/, an iOS App.

With File Explorer Pro, I copied about 3,000 images to one of it's directories on the iPhone, and from Finder on MacOS, I could drag and drop the images onto my MacOS desktop. You drag the photos from the iPhone finder, from "Files", and select the App. Done in a matter of minutes. It also allows me to copy images to a NAS box. Similar process on Windows with iTunes installed.

Skyjos also has a dedicated Photo Manager App that does this too, along with displaying EXIF data. I haven't tried out, but it looks good.

It's saved me a lot of time and frustration. Highly recommended.

Just a note, I'm not affiliated to Skyjos in any way, I just think the app is a brilliant, necessary tool for any iPhone.
