IPhone disconnects when importing photos

Hi there! I’m about to loss my mind. I’ve been having this problem for far too long. Every time I go to import my photos from my iPhone 7 onto my windows 10 Acer laptop it begins to import my photos via the windows photo app, but then disconnects after importing 8 or less photos (sometimes doesn’t import at all). I made sure that I have the device driver up to date on my iPhone, and the cord I’m using works just fine. It connects to the computer, it just doesn’t import my photos. Please help :(

iPhone 7, iOS 13

I fixed the issue by removing the screen lock timer and disabeling my antivirus live scanning. I also disabled my firewall but I doubt that had antying to do with it.

Setting-> Display & Brightness -> Auto-Lock

Set it to never for the file transfer and set it back when done.

I spent a lot of time trying to find out what was wrong before finding this post. I see that this problem has be reported a long time ago but Apple has still not fixed it. My next phone won't be an Iphone.

Same issue here. Annoying and must be fixed by Apple!

"Keep original" was helpful though, at least for a temporary solution, thanks to all who mentioned it.

In case you don't want HEIC photos on your PC, do this:

  1. In Settings/Photos/Transfer to Mac or PC, check "Automatic"
  2. Select and copy photos only (that seems to work without disconnecting, and it does convert to JPG automatically)
  3. Go back to settings and check "Keep originals"
  4. Now select videos only and copy them
  5. VLC does play original videos, there's no format problems with the original videos, no need to convert

Hope this helps to all folks.

I have the same issue! And I tried to transfer the files with the latest 3 or 4 service releases of Windows 10.

For me it seemed to help by just disabling the power saving mode on the iPhone8 while it was connected with my PC (Windows 10 latest service release) to reload and transfer picture files.

Another *BIG* issue is that the copy process is very unreliable - it seemed to copy all files and the process ends without any error. But if you do a double check (number of files to be transferred) you recognize that many files are missing... hey, what!?!

I'm very disappointed with Apple at this point!

I thought I was losing my mind also and telling my wife it was her. I have been trying to transfer photos from a trip since I am off now. It seems like when it gets to a "live" photo file or "MOV" file he phone disconnects. The files for the live photos have a picture number/name and another file with the same numbers/name but it is a MOV file. I can get one MOV file to transfer but disconnects with the second one. Frustrating to read it has been going on and Apple doesn't seem to care about it. Has anyone figured out how to get around it?

I have this same issue. Ready to toss new phone in pool.

In addition to previous recommendation to keep originals; auto-lock must change from 30 seconds to never when attempting to import.

I have had these issues since before I purchased iPhone11.

iPhone11 installed all updates in hope of a fix - nothing.

I do believe it was due to an IOS upgrade prior to November of 2019.

My iPhone 6 (which always worked beautifully) started having the same issue after an IOS upgrade. In all fairness, it could also be caused from a Windows upgrade. Apple and Microsoft have been feuding since I started tech in 1994. I'm with all of you. Apple needs to fix this and also provide an HEIC file converter to JPG. The live photo feature (sent all of my photos to the cloud without warning-another pain) Technology is supposed to make it easier to complete our work.

Question: does anyone have this issue importing to mac? I was also unsuccessful with my 2011 Macbook Pro.

It doesn’t seem like it. It definitely is the iOS 13 update, cause before I updated my iPhone XS I was able to transfer photos/videos with no problem, even used my very old Sony vaio laptop. They changed something and now the videos don’t transfer. I even tried putting my video files on google drive, dropbox, one drive etc., to transfer the videos to my laptop but then either the sound or the videos doesn’t work. They say Apple is “simple” to use...Um okay...

We create photos that we can’t retrieve! I’ve tried every known way, and it’s always the same. Best method I’ve found is: Computer > Open the “iPhone” folder. Then only try copy and paste 10 photos at a time or 1 movie at a time and paste /drop in a folder on your PC.

it took two hours to get 200 done. I’ve got 5000 to go!

It doesn’t copy movies if you work more than an hour at a time either.

I’m under a deadline to get this done so I can return the old phone. If I can’t get it done - they don’t get the phone back until MY FILES ARE BACKUP.

This should take up more than 15 minutes to set up. Come back in two hours later!! I’ve been at this 10 days off and on.

Talk to me at the end of next week see how it’s going.

Augh!
