IPhone disconnects when importing photos

Hi there! I’m about to loss my mind. I’ve been having this problem for far too long. Every time I go to import my photos from my iPhone 7 onto my windows 10 Acer laptop it begins to import my photos via the windows photo app, but then disconnects after importing 8 or less photos (sometimes doesn’t import at all). I made sure that I have the device driver up to date on my iPhone, and the cord I’m using works just fine. It connects to the computer, it just doesn’t import my photos. Please help :(

iPhone 7, iOS 13

This is basic functionality that used to be seamless and easy. Clearly Apple wants you to buy cloud based storage or a new phone. You're insane if you think they're not aware of this glitch and able to correct it with ease. It's shameful practice.

The problem came back so I decided to restart my phone and now it started working again.

Here's what I did:

  1. Disable Auto-Lock
  2. Reset Privacy : Setting->General->Reset->Reset Location & Privacy
  3. Plugged the phone back to the computer and have it "trust the computer" again.
  4. Updated iTunes and reboot the computer
  5. Restarted the phone.

I think you can fix this problem by simply changing a setting on iPhone. Go to Settings/Photos and scroll down to "Transfer to Mac or PC." "Keep Originals" should be checked, not "Automatic."

This step solved my problem too, BUT you need to convert iphone pics in HEIC format to JPG format with a converter in your PC if you want them in jpg/jpeg format. This irritates a lot though. Or else you wont be able to view them in your PC.

None of those work. I have the same issue but never had this problem before, I'm not sure what apple changed that this is happening now, I hope there is a better solution then the one posted about "changing a setting on iPhone. Go to Settings/Photos and scroll down to "Transfer to Mac or PC." "Keep Originals" should be checked, not "Automatic."" cause who has time to convert all the pictures to jpeg.... this is really annoying!!

I've found if transferring anything other than video files it seems to transfer without issues on 'Automatic'. It's only when it's trying to transfer video files where it shows corrupt files and hangs the transfer. You then can switch your phone to 'Keep Originals" to transfer the video files only. It's a pain but that's the only way I've been able to get it to work.

Same issue here. Annoying and must be fixed by Apple!

"Keep original" was helpful though, at least for a temporary solution, thanks to all who mentioned it.

In case you don't want HEIC photos on your PC, do this:

  1. In Settings/Photos/Transfer to Mac or PC, check "Automatic"
  2. Select and copy photos only (that seems to work without disconnecting, and it does convert to JPG automatically)
  3. Go back to settings and check "Keep originals"
  4. Now select videos only and copy them
  5. VLC does play original videos, there's no format problems with the original videos, no need to convert

Hope this helps to all folks.

I'm having this issue too and it is doing my head in. Changing 'Keep Original' under photos appears to work and everything transfers but then you can't watch the videos at all. They won't play and some photos turn into HEIC files. We have an old iPad that won't upgrade past iOS 13 and still on on iOS 12 and it works fine. The issue has only happened since iOS 13. Anyone else been able to work out a fix?

This is because that's how the device actually stores your photos/videos. When "download and keep originals" is not selected, it performes an on-the-fly conversion to mov/jpg while transfering. Because of this bugged conversion the transfer fails. You can either convert from heic to jpg/mov yoursef using 3rd party soft (note that heic movies still have mov extension because mov is a container)... or you can set your phone to save the files as non-heic as they are being recorded, by going to settings-> camera->formats and select "most compatible". This will not affect the files already stored, obviously and unfortunately. This setting will also generate slightly larger files on your phone storage and will also not allow 4k 60fps movies,.. but until a fix is applied... these are the only options we have

I had a very similar issue with importing pictures and disconnections (with multiple devices). I ran "iPhone/iPod Connectivity" through iTunes. Results showed iPod service was not running (was red). I reinstalled iTunes from the apple website (not windows store) and eventually had iPod service running again. After this fix, importing resumed working normally without any further issues or disconnections. Additionally note, I did not have to change my camera settings and it remained at "Automatic". I almost gave up but stumbled upon this and thank god it worked.

Hi, I also had this problem and was so annoying. I downloaded the recent itunes, and also disabled the keypad lock on my phone as well as changing from 'automatic' to 'keep originals' on the media transfer settings. So far it has worked seamlessly. If anyone is having this problem, first just try to disable the keypad lock on your phone first as this may be the only solution required, or else then try to update itunes and adjust the transfer settings.

Cheers ;)
