an ssl error has occured and a secure connection to the server cannot be made - Apple Music

This issue has occurred all of a sudden over the past few days. Up until then I have never had a problem with Apple music.

This effects Apple music across all my devices - Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV and is an intermittent issue as it is not happening all the time.

The crux of the matter:

  • Music downloaded to my devices works fine it is only when I try and stream something.
  • Beats 1 radio works.
  • Music over my mobile network works fine
  • Music was streaming fine this morning. This afternoon it has stopped.
  • Yesterday was the same with it working in the morning then the SSL error occurring in the afternoon, it finally resolved itself around 2330 and everything was working again.
  • When I get this error Apps don't download either. I even went to re-enter my credit card details as I am trying everything and that failed.

Things I have tried:

  • Rebooted my router and tried a spare one.
  • Confirmed with my ISP that there is nothing going on at their end.
  • Checked my internet connection against other non Apple services.
  • Made sure there was no VPN interference on any of the devices I am attempting to use.
  • Made sure the Date/Time on my devices is correct.
  • Reset my Apple TV to factory settings.
  • Signed in and out of iCloud/iTunes.
  • Reset my iPad to factory settings.
  • Spent over an hour yesterday talking to Apple who didn't have a clue and blamed my set-up.

This only started occurring since Monday evening after I reset my wife's old iPhone 6s to factory settings to give it a new lease of life. I have no idea if this is related to my problem or just a coincidence.

I'm at my wits end here and ready to unsubscribe and move to a competitor as I really don't have the patience for this - which to me is something going on with Apple authenticating my Apple ID and it is failing only some of the time for some reason. So I am just chancing my arm and seeing if this sounds familiar to anyone in the community and what/if they found a resolution?

Many thanks.

I'm in New Zealand and while it works with my home wifi, I get the SSL error with my MOBILE data (2 degrees).

It's a problem with the ISP but it's more than just one obviously. Something Apple has done to Apple Music has made it stop working with certain ISPs.
