Seiko Smart Label Printer on a Mac OS

I have a smart label printer (connected by usb) which used to work perfectly on my mac ..... until the latest upgrade. Now it wont recognise it. The data & software are still there. I've downloaded the latest Seiko upgrades too but still no luck

Have you gone to the Seiko support site to determine if (1) the current drive supports Catalina or (2) does the company intend to issue an update? One of the things I've learned is that while my printer may continue to function for a very long time, peripheral manufacturers stop issuing driver updates after about 5-7 years which sometimes means devices stop functioning when the computer operating system is upgraded. Right now I have a make running an old version of OS X specifically so I can use a laser printer and fancy scanner.

It seems that Apple Catalina is not compatible with my Seiko smart label printer and there doesn't seem like theres anything I can do. Software upgrades from Seiko are not accepted. The printer is not recognised. What a crazy situation. Wish I'd never got Catalina. Same seems to go for using BT Yahoo on mail. How can Apple get away with this

How can Apple get away with this

Allow me to suggest you reconsider who is remiss by providing a bit of history. The better question is, "How can Seiko get away with this?"

Apple hardware went to 64-bit processors in 2006--13 years ago. Software developers, including whoever does Seiko's Label maker drivers and software, knew this.Competent software developers made the changes needed.

Other chose to ignore the march of progress even thought they had the option to receive Apple development plans and documentation through Apple's well-recognized Developers Connection. Apple holds conferences on this stuff, but they cannot make a lazy developer pay attention to it.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him write 64-bit code.

Given that you are using an iMac Pro, I'll assume that you are using Catalina. Do you have more than one printer connected to your MacPro? When you bring up the window to print a lablel, ensure that you have selected the printer you wish to use, namely the Seiko.

This is the usual Mac printer window dropdown:

I only have 2 printers in regular use, namely the MX920 series and the Pro9500II series. Your printer will probably show a different window. A screenshot would probably help us to define your problem. Sorry I can't help you as there don't seem to me any troubleshooting tips available other than those in your user manual.
