AirPods Pro High Pitched Noise

When I push my AirPods Pro into my ears I hear a really high pitched noise, similar to the mosquito sound everyone used to play. Has anyone else experienced this? When they’re off it doesn’t happen, so I’m assuming it’s part of the noise cancellation.

Hi have a Fix.

Go to Bluetooth > Select your Airpods Pro > Select Noise Control "Off". Also make sure that Left and Right Airpods actions have nothing to do with Noise Control. So just make sure to have both working with Siri. This is what works for me, I hope it does the same for some of you.

Same here; touch the right ear pod to deactivate noise reduction and then I hear a squeak in the left ear when I put it back in the case (not on every time, but sometimes). When I put the EarPods back in the case, re-open and re-wear them it gets better, but then it happens again a little later... I had my first pair swap for a new set two days ago but today i detected it for the new pair as well :(

This has happened since I got them, (by which I mean a screeching noise when pushing them in). I always assumed it was because I was pushing on the black bit, which is the grille for the noise cancelling mic, and the system that tries to equalise the pressure between the inside and outside of your ear, which I am blocking with my finger, therefore the system freaks out. I may be wrong though.

Not weirdness after I have pushed them in.

So this is probably why Apple engineers are saying it is normal behaviour. I suspect that is not SCREECHGATE!

If you are getting weird noises during playback just return them or go see a Genius bar.

Yeap, same thing is happening to me but with the right hand one.

£250?

Will be going to the Genius bar soon. Distortion during phone calls is so annoying.

I called apple and they made me reset them by folliwing these instructions.

There is a few more steps included with the reset of the AirPods…You can reset the AirPods by: 1.Put your AirPods in their case

Close the lid. Wait 30 seconds, then open the lid

2.Go to Settings > Bluetooth and tap the "i" icon next to your AirPods. Then tap Forget This Device, and tap again to confirm.

3.With the lid open, press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until you see the status light flashing amber.

4. With the lid open, place your AirPods close to your device. Follow the steps on your device's screen.

These these did nothing for me I am afraid. So the lady said it might be a TIPS issue and sent me two sets. Seriously Though, they are virtually brand new.

So, off to Leicester Highcross for me. EVERY SINGLE Apple product I have bought in the past 5 years has failed! (apart from a second hand thunderbolt display).

The list so far is

2018 Macbook pro

Iphone X

Beats X headphones

Iphone 7

Same thing happened to me. Actually called into Apple Support as my left Airpod Pro was making clicking noise on noise cancelling and pass-thru mode. They guided me through resetting and re-pairing them. After re-pairing my Airpods, I inserted them into my ears and was greated with an extremely loud, high-pitched static noise that left both of my ears ringing for a few minutes. I didn't think too much of it at the time, but it has now been a week (Called support on April 8th, 2020) and my left ear is STILL RINGING. I went to the ENT today and they told me my hearing hadn't been damaged, but that the ringing as a result of this loud noise may or may not ever go away. Incredibly depressed and scared to put anything in my ears again. Loved these Airpods as with noise cancelling on I could listen to speech and music at a safe, low volume, but if there's a risk of this happening again it's just not worth it for me. This ringing is debilitating... makes it hard to focus or fall asleep, and according to the Dr. there's no cure for Tinnitus. Just have to hope it goes away.

This isn’t normal behavior. It doesn’t happen to everyone and it happens when the pod moves around in the ear. It can be from readjustment or vibration from eating, talking, or walking on hard surfaces.

I am experiencing this issue in my left AirPod pro. I notice it’s worse if you have a lot of ear hair 🤢

I think one of the mics is amplifying this movement and playing it back.

i would advise everyone to submit feedback via their Feedback Assistant. Apple monitors that system and can provide timely feedback or request additional details about your specific problem.

I’ll do the same and update here as I learn more.

I recently was forced to wipe and perform a clean install on my iPhone 11. For a few days it seemed like the audio connection was improved, the speaking from the left bud appeared to go away.

Unfortunately it returned. Similar ear movement, chewing, talking, coughing, walking on hard surfaces can cause enough vibration in the ear canal to reproduce it.

I forgot to create by feedback ticket, I'll do that next.
