AirPods Pro High Pitched Noise

When I push my AirPods Pro into my ears I hear a really high pitched noise, similar to the mosquito sound everyone used to play. Has anyone else experienced this? When they’re off it doesn’t happen, so I’m assuming it’s part of the noise cancellation.

Hi have a Fix.

Go to Bluetooth > Select your Airpods Pro > Select Noise Control "Off". Also make sure that Left and Right Airpods actions have nothing to do with Noise Control. So just make sure to have both working with Siri. This is what works for me, I hope it does the same for some of you.

Quick update, I cycled through cleaning and testing bud sizes. Initially when I got them I used the default buds and the passed the bud fit test, but decided to check if the others would work.

Now none of them will pass the fit test and the default still feels the most secure in the ear (tho they all work themselves our while talking, eating, walking... anything except perfectly still :-)

Not sure what's up, but first product I've purchased from apple that I have regrets about, given the price.

Hope there's an easy fix.

Quick update:

Today, the audio quality of my AirPods Pro degraded to the point I couldn't use them.

I plugged them in for a few hours and reset but "Forgetting" the device and holding the pairing button down for 15 minutes.

Once connected I checked the firmware version, their's been news they released a new update.

My AirPods Pro now report: 2D15

The audio is slightly improved in the left bud, the right one has been fine.

There is a low level squeak from the left bud during music playback and similar squeaking with ear canal vibration/movement.

Only in the left ear, can't reproduce it in the right.

I had this happening in the right Airpod only. I did a factory reset by holding the button on the closed case w/both Airpods in it for 15 seconds and then unlocked my iPhone. This seems to have fixed it for now. Really weird issue. I've used them daily for the past 5 months w/o this issue. I noticed it when I tried connecting them to my MacBook Pro for the first time in a while. Hopefully the squeaky static sound doesn't return soon. Otherwise, I'll be taking them into the Apple store since I'm still under Apple Care.

i had this as well in my left airpod pro. i am putting this here for anyone that still has this issue. there is a little piece at the end of the rubber/silicon part of the replaceable part. i had to take it out to clean my airpod, and it got rid of the squeal all together. the only downside to this is the sound quality is very minorly worse, but barely noticeable. hope this helps anyone who still has this issue.

benwbarber That’s nice it fixed for you, but that doesn’t work for most people including myself. Apple recommends that too but the issue isn’t dirt, it’s wrong pressure coming from the ANC. It’s faulty hardware. The issue is so we’ll know at Apple, you don’t even have to make an appointment. Just take your AirPods to the store and they give you a matching one free for whichever one is messing up

Same here, AirPods Pro. It is a microphone feedback noise, but yeah, it’s jarring, high-pitched, and it hurts my ears. Not specific to left or right, it depends on which one goes in first. I have started holding them in my fingers and disabling Active Noise Cancellation as this is the culprit. Now I’m all hesitant to put them in my ears because, again, it hurts so loud!

@Hi1234hi976, would you consider updating your post to indicate the solution and flag this as solved. based on feedback I the thread this issue requires device replacement and isn't something the community can facilitate. Perhaps adding a link to the relevant Apple support page to initiate that replacement request.

I see that this is an ongoing problem. I recently too, came upon the same problem in my left AirPod Pro. I thought maybe it was from listening to music too loud, or maybe water had transversed inside. But I never get it close to water and I only clean the AirPod cushions and not the AirPods themselves.

And being a musician, I always apply the credo K. I. S. S.

With that said, all I did was change the AirPod Pro cushions to another set. And Voila, the problem was corrected.

I am assuming that if there is not a tight air fit and there is any type of ambient noise getting into your ear canal. It causes feedback to either the right or left AirPod Pro.

I truly hope this solves your problem, it did for me.

(Possible Solution?)

Heyya I exercise quite frequently with my AirPods Pro and suffer this same issue. Had it replaced thrice with no luck. Just today I found out that by playing those speaker clearing high pitch noises (can be found on YouTube) on max volume the problem went away. Do note you’ll have to find something to cover the proximity sensor (maybe finger or lie it on a table sensor facing down) so that music plays (remove ear tips too). Also do just swap between noise cancellation and transparency mode to check if squeak noise is still there. I’m not sure whether it might work for all but it’s worth a shot. Cheers everybody and stay safe! :)
