Missed time change when changing zones

Recent trip out of EST zone resulted in time change estimated within 1 hr of leaving EST zone, but on return the next day time on device did not revert back. Was using Carplay on both occasions, with Maps running, and various combinations of satellite radio and Audible app throughout trip. Time did not revert on device by day after return; tried simply adding NY (EST) zone, but that did not jog phone time to change. Waited one more day and then had to manually change device time. I'm OK with time never automatically changing or always changing, but hard to handle inconsistency. Could combination of Carplay and various app changes affect time change? Slight difference in route on return--prob less than 25 mile difference. 8plus; iOS 13.1.3

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! I see you have an issue with your iPhone when using CarPlay and the time zone change, and I'd like to help out.

Get help with the date and time on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch has steps to follow for this issue.

It may also have to do with being connected to your car stereo. Check with your car manufacturer, if your time zone doesn't adjust only when connected to CarPlay.

Your iPhone needs to be updated to the latest iOS, which is 13.2.3. Make a backup in iCloud or on your computer, if you don't already have one.

Thanks. Checked settings and all appear correctly set for auto update. Will update iOS. Puzzle to me is that update of time occurred during first pass through change zone; but not second. Only differences I can ascertain are that toggle between "Radio" and "App" may have been different, although Maps was operating each time and that zone change occurred in slightly different location. Time using Carplay after passing through zone before removing device was similar. Unfortunately, it will be some time before passing through zone change by car, so will not be able to check until then. In general, Carplay and VW Alltrack 2019 head unit seem to play well together otherwise.
