Airport Extreme dropping connection

Issue with client's Airport Extreme (one month old) needing to be rebooted 4-5 times daily. Clients lose internet connectivity - both wired and wireless - green light on router. Static IP assigned to router and manually entered. Installed in small office - less than 10 users - all Macintosh. Port forwarding on three ports for Daylite CRM. Firmware at 7.5.1, No guest network enabled.
Troubleshooting included:
Switched ISP from ADSL to Cable (completely different technology and modems)
Switched router out and replaced with identical router - reconfigured manually
Turned on interference robustness
Changed both wireless channels
Changed out power supply and put both modem and router on UPS

UGH. I thought my problems were solved ...

Have a new AEBS and a new cable modem ... all worked well last night but today the internet connection only lasts a few minutes and requires frequent restarts of the AEBS. The cable works fine, and when the ethernet is plugged into the iMac all is well.

I sure hope someone can figure out a fix.

I personally think it may be a firmware/software issue. Does anyone know when the last AEBS update happened? I have mine on auto update.

Just to restate my problem: it doesn't have to so with wireless dropping or anything like that... It has to do with my AEBS dropping my Internet connection and making it so all my computers (I think we have 7) lose their connections. Cable modem is fine and keeps a connection and the AEBS even keeps a green light.

Same problem. I think the most recent update was 7.5.1 in March 2010

That rules out my theory then. Have you recently moved or switched ISPs? Two weeks ago my Network was flawless with my AEBS backbone. Then I moved and have had nothing but problems since. I've had multiple Cox technicians come out and take a look and I witnessed all their tests and they looked good. The Internet is being supplied and I really believe the AEBS has a connection when it's down as well... Just won't/can't pass that connection through to the clients.

😟

I also have Cox but had no problems until recently. My equipment has been in the same place with the same settings. When I was setting up my new modem yesterday I was on the phone with tech support and all seemed to check out.

I am also totally bummed about this and am hoping that someone will come up with a fix.

just wanted to add my name to the list. everything was fine until approx 2weeks ago. i thought it was a modem issue so i complained until cox gave me a new one. it worked fine for about 2 days then started the drop issues again. now i have to do the hard/factory reset daily and sometimes many times per day. i have had my airport for approx 5years without incident until now. you would have to think it is a software issues. i'm running version 5.5.1 (551.19). already submitted my bug report after the last post linked to the form.

I'd like to add my AEBS to this thread. It started happening a month ago with my Time Warner connection, 5 times a week now. Tonight after another power cycle to get it back, I got fed up and looked for help. I'm happy to see I'm not alone, but irritated that I had so many flawless years and now this.

I have two AEBS and I have tested both with same results. I plugged in a netgear wireless for a week and it did not drop. I want my Airports back.

A TimeCapsule/AEBS hangs periodically - roughly every 48 hours - and requires a power-off restart after which all is well for some time.

Time Capsule serial #6F9449P7ACD, firmware 7.5.1. The AEBS is running in BRIDGE mode (so PPOE is not an issue). Two computers are connected by ethernet, and two by wireless. Airport Utility is running constantly on one of the wired computers.

When the AEBS hangs, the green light is ON and the lights on the DSL modem are all good. Airport Utility can NOT find the base station (over the wire, or from a wireless laptop).

The wireless laptops can see both the 2.4 and 5G networks but cannot log in to them - connection times out. As soon as the AEBS restarts, all is well again.

This didn't used to happen, so what has changed? Recently we moved it from our bedroom, where we always turned it off at night because the light was too bright, to a different room where we can leave it powered up 24/7. The problem appeared since the move and the change to 24/7 operation.

This suggests one of two things: (1) the AEBS cannot handle a change of IP address or some other periodic network change (but remember, the DSL modem is handling the PPOE). Or (2), the AEBS, being on all the time, is running hotter than before and some internal circuit is failing due to temperature.

Regarding (2), I've raised it up off the shelf so it sits on two rubber erasers with air flow all around it. Also the DSL modem was sitting on top of it and I've moved that to one side. Regarding (1), I'm trying to remember to use Airport Utility to issue a Restart every night when going to bed. I'll edit this post if the AEBS gets wedged in the 24 hours after such a restart.

Also it never occurred to me that wired connections might work - since the Utility cannot see the BS from a wired computer, I supposed it was unusable. Next time it hangs I will try to see if a wired machine can (a) reach the internet or (b) do a time capsule backup.

Samsung captivates Airport:

2 months ago our AEBS was experiencing Type 2 connectivity failure. We replaced it with our Airport Express and had fun with the same problem. We tried all the various settings suggested here and there and nothing worked. The only thing that was different in our home was my wife's new Samsung Captivate phone. It came home at the same time that our routers' problems started. It sits on a counter, six feet from the router. When the phone is in Airplane mode our problems cease. After repeated tests of our hypothesis, we feel confident that the phone interferes with the router. My iPhone, which also sits in the same proximity to the router, is not a problem.

At least in my case, it appears to be ISP related. I had my AEBS connected through a DSL modem in bridge mode to a local ISP (Xmission) for 10 months without a glitch. I switched to Qwest DSL a few weeks ago and have had nothing but problems since. When the modem is connecting directly things seem solid, but if I switch it to bridge mode and do PPPoE from the AEBS, it will take literally hours to connect, and then drops spontaneously after a few days of usage. I even went so far as to have Qwest send me a new modem but that doesn't seem to have changed anything.

So I think I found my problem and it is going to sound absolutely silly.

When we moved I have a smaller space to rest the cable modem (which is a fatty) and the AEBS so I thought I would just put the AEBS on its side. It looked great!

Well yesterday on the way home from work it hit me that perhaps that was causing an issue... I got home and orientated it correctly. After quite a bit of testing my connection has stayed constant and my ping times are great. I think I have lost 2 packets all day compared to my 1,000s before.

So far so good, but we'll see... It's only been about 24 hours. Anything could happen.
