Quicktime - Use the old OS software that you no longer have? logic?

"To convert an incompatible media file, open it with QuickTime Player (version 10.0 and later) in macOS Mojave or earlier," SO, the new OS software Catalina that replaced the old OS software, doesn't work. You are instructing me to use the old software that you no longer have? logic?

Any major software release will leave some old tech behind. Always has been, always will be.

Users have had time to make the transition since 2009, when QuickTime 10 was introduced. The end of 32 bit applications (and all its derivatives, such as legacy codecs) has been heavily publicized. Initially scheduled for macOS 10.14, but now definitive with macOS 10.15.

It also says: “Third-party developers may continue to offer compatibility with some formats by building support directly into their apps.”

Whatever file format you have, can probably still be converted using one of the fine third party offerings.
