Overheating and loud fan, in addition to trouble logging back in

I bought a brand new MacBook Air in August, only to have trouble with the hardware 2 months into using it. I shut my laptop down every night before bed, but the fan is always loud during the day and the part above the keyboard is hot. I also have trouble logging back after waking up the from sleep, because the spinning rainbow wheel runs forever and I haven't even used touch ID or entered the password.

What is going on? Is this something that can be fixed? I'm really hoping I don't have to return this laptop, since I use it for college frequently.

Please determine if the same problems occur in "Safe Mode": Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac.
