You are recording and playing back a MIDI track. It's working exactly like it's supposed to, MIDI is not sound.... you have to route the Audio outputs of your synthesizer into the audio inputs of the computer, (or audio interface). Then your audio from the synthesizer will appear in Logic.

It's a microkorg S. I have it going through a M-Audio interface and that goes directly into my MacBook Pro. I want the audio from the controller to go into Logic. I'm able to play the software installed in Logic.
There is software available with the midi controller. The problem is I can't use it because the software is 32 bit and Catalina doesn't support 32 bit programs anymore. Maybe that's it because I can't transfer my sound patches into Logic. This is the only thing I can think of.
Ah! If you only want to record the audio - not MIDI - from the controller you need to create an Audio track and select the right audio channel from the audio interface.
Unless I don't understand your problem?

No, I want to use midi. I don't mean to add any confusion. My midi controller is also a synthesizer with built in sounds. There is software available to transfer those sounds into Logic but I can't use them since they don't work with Catalina.
I feel like I'm really close to being able to hear what I record on Logic. It's just weird because Logic reads what I play on my keyboard, but just plays it back on the keyboard since the keyboard has speakers. I can play sounds from the Logic library on my keyboard and record them. I've messed around with a ton of options and still no luck.
Which MIDI controller and how is it connected to the Mac?
Do you want audio from the controller to Logic or play a software instrument with MIDI?

Logic is able to read my audio that I play, it just plays it back on the controller instead of in Logic.
You have to activate Input Monitoring on the recording track. Also, you may want to set something like "Local Off" in the MIDI configuration on the controller.

I did activate input monitoring and set my midi controller to local off and that still didn't help.
I contacted Apple support and the problem isn't with logic. I have to wait until the keyboard company releases a 64 bit update or use an earlier OS
