Music plays in the background even when app is not running!!

Even since I have upgraded to IOS 13 , certain music apps like Gaana , behaves very weirdly. Even if the app is closed/not running in the background , music starts playing all of a sudden. And I cannot stop the music, because there is no app running. I have to open the app and close the app again to stop the music. I tried updating the app also from AppStore but this did not help. So looks like this is not an App issue. This is very embarrassing whenever I am in any meeting or at my work place. You guys need to fix this.

I mostly use this particular app for music, so I don't know if this issue is there with any other music app also. I will update this thread if I see the same issue with any other apps!!

iPhone XR, iOS 13

@Lawrence I understand what you are trying to say . For my case I keep all background app refresh off except some very specific apps that I want to run. This is not an issue with any specific app and I have seen the same thing happening on my friend's iPhone XS Max for AppleMusic app. The whole point is I never call upon the app to run, it just spawns an instance on its own. And there is no way to pause the song unless I open the app and remove from the task switcher or pause it from the app; control center also does not work in this case.

I have been using IOS for long time and only saw this happening once I upgraded to IOS13. Maybe Apple did something for the apps to behave this way in IOS13 or maybe there is a bug. This does not happen always but sometimes.

To clear up a misconception, no apps ever run in background unless they are enabled in Background App Refresh. The apps you see on the task switcher are suspended, NONE of them are running. And removing them from the task switcher does not stop them from running when they are called upon to run, it just makes them invisible (as you discovered). A music app can "spawn" a play process that will continue playing. It SHOULD kill that process if you remove the app from the task switcher, but apparently yours is not behaving correctly, so you should contact the app provider.

However, you should be able to stop music playing by opening the control center and tapping the Pause button, whether the app is visible in the task switcher or not.

Music plays in the background even when app is not running!!
