Recovering lost bookmarks from Firefox

All of my history and bookmarks suddenly disappeared from Firefox when I shut down my computer overnight. When I restarted it in the morning, everything was missing. How do I get hundreds of these bookmarks back? I have both a Seagate Backup and Time Machine, but I would need very clear steps of how to manage this retrieval. Thanks for any help you can provide!
