How to stop screen lighting up between tracks

Hello. This is regarding Apple music used on iPhone 7. After updating to iOS 13 my screen lights up when I listen to music on Apple Music og Google Play.

It is very annoying when listening to a long playlist or album - I have my phone beside me while I work, and I can't stop looking at the screen when it light up. I imagine it uses a lot of battery too.

Every time a new track comes on - the lock screen lights up. Does anyone know how to turn this off, so the phone doesn't turn the screen on when a new track comes on?

Good afternoon Jesper,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand you have your iPhone 7 locked, but the iPhone lights up between tracks when you are listening to Apple Music or Google Play.

Did you update to iOS 13.2.3 or iPhone 13.3? Are you saying this did not happen in iOS 12?

Are you streaming music or are you listening to music you have already downloaded for offline listening? Just to confirm, this is happening in both apps, is that right?

Here are a few preliminary steps you can take to address this:

Hi

I'm facing this issue also since several updates and regret ever updating. I am listening in my car with AUX and after every new song the screen goes on. Really annoying and this bug exists already since various updates. If you listen to music via bluetooth everything works fine. Face the same issue even if I listen to music with the Beats In Ear.

Yesterday I factory reset my iPhone with 13.3, took a few albums from my iTunes library and: everything works fine! No more light coming on. That’s the good news. The (maybe not so) bad news is that this bug stills lurks somewhere in the firmware. After setting up all my apps and settings it was back. So I made another factory reset. Then I set up everything step by step, apps, settings and regularly made backups and checked if the light stays off. I hope that I will find the event/setting that triggers this behavior. If I do I will report it here. If some else finds it - please report!

Hi! I just contacted Apple phone support because I have the same issue as "Jesper Hall". The light comes on with every new track when I'm on headphone via the 1/8" jack or Lighting. It does not seem to happen when I use the internal speaker, though.

The Apple support asked me to follow the steps you provide in your reply, but they don't work for me. So is this an intended behavior or is this more like a bug?

I spend a lot of time listening to music and I like to have my phone laying in front of me so I can see notifications. This feature/bug makes it necessary to cover the phone because otherwise I feel constantly distracted by the light that comes on with every new track.

If this is a bug.. will there be a fix soon? Or if this a feature.. why didn't Apple implement an option switch to disable it?

Best regards,

RoguePlanet

Hi,

none of those tips solved the problem. The Lightup also comes with locally added music from my itunes-library (simply playing music).

(config: iphone 8, catalina ... all updates made).

it's getting extremely on my nerves, especially when i nightdrive my car listening to music from the iphone ... every 5 minutes i have brightlight in the dark car ... not so nice, when you are an unexperienced driver!

tuning down the brightness-setting of the iphone is NOT a solution. not even a trick.
