Can't use Apple Color Emoji font

I've searched /System/Library/Fonts and have verified that the Apple Color Emoji font is in fact on my drive - I've opened it in Font Book.

The problem is that I can't seem to use it in any of my Adobe CS6 apps. I create a text field and try to select the font in the character panel and the closest font I can get in the search bar is "Apple Casual".

Is this an Adobe issue or an Apple issue? How can I use the Color Emoji font for creating graphics and other materials?

Running El Cap and CS6 on Mid-2012 MBP.

Tom,

Thanks, for the speedy reply.

If this screenshot is what you're talking about, then I've used the Character Viewer.

However, following the instructions above, it doesn't work out.

The link you provided states "In an app on your Mac, choose Edit > Emoji & Symbols,". No go.

  1. When I go into MSWord and open the Edit menu, there is no "Emoji & Symbols" option. It also doesn't exist in Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop.
  2. When I do open the Character Viewer using the menu item referenced in the screenshot, double clicking on an emoji produces the following results:
    • In Adobe apps: a box with an X for any and every emoji I've typed.
    • In MS Word: a question mark for most emoji and an outline of certain emojis, but certainly not the color version as from the Apple Color Emoji font. WYSINWYG... 😞(Seems to work here, but when I copy & paste into Adobe or others, I get nonsense or boxed X or ?.)

Any other recommendations or settings?

I'm marking this solved because the Adobe forums had an answer. But, here's my short answer:

I don't know why SVG fonts wouldn't show up in CS6, but I was able to type them out in TextEdit, save as a PDF, THEN open the PDF in Illustrator and it accomplished what I needed.

It's not bulletproof, because it looks like the outlines I get are a tiny bit jagged and I would like to see a better solution. But, this works for now.
